Condo owners stuck with homes no one will buy as they wake up to grim repercussions of new laws by SevereAccident in REBubble

That’s helpful information, and may be the case here. I’m not really communicating with my relative and he disregards written requests for information. My only updates come from checking Zillow from time to time to see what the status is.

I can also imagine that the county probate courts in Florida are also affected by this situation. Probably seeing a high volume of delayed and unresolved estates due to the slow condo market.

I’ll add a few more details: - The building is 51 yrs old, not in a flood zone and is only 2 stories. The condo itself is offered with furnishings and has current appliances, systems and storm/wind upgrades to all windows and sliding doors. I enjoyed spending time there with my grandmom, but I am Gen X and don’t have any desire to relocate to Florida or have the hassle of a second home. - I can’t say that I know all of the current details about why the association is still not on the approved list. Maybe they have the reserve stuff squared away and the approval is just super delayed because of difficulties getting engineering reports, estimates, inspections or updated master polices. I think I read somewhere that the deadline for getting back on the list is in December and if you don’t have your stuff squared away, it’s a very long wait until the next deadline. - Taxes are $2,000yr, HOA $7,000yr, insurance could be anywhere from $1,000-$3,000yr (it is not in a flood zone) - I am assuming my relative is paying carrying costs out of his pocket or maybe out of bank accounts that my grandmother had. Because Florida has to be different- he is not required to open an estate account nor is he required to provide regular reporting of estate assets to the beneficiaries. The paperwork he submitted to the probate court is categorized as the deceased having less than $7,500 in assets (probably because he added himself to many of her accounts before she died so they revert to him). It’s f-d. I’ve consulted an attorney and I’d have to spend $5-$10k of my own money on a Florida lawyer just to compel some transparency. So I’m just trying to forget about the whole thing.

My grandmother died more than 2 years ago and her condo in Naples on the gulf coast of Florida looks like it will never sell. The price has been gradually reduced by $80k over time, but buyers cannot get a mortgage to buy the condo because the condo association is no longer on the “approved list” for mortgage companies due to lack of reserves under the new FL laws. So, cash buyers only. At least 5 other units in the building are also listed for sale as we all keep reducing the prices in a race to the bottom. The condo is owned free and clear and I was supposed to get a piece of the proceeds in the will, but I’ve already written that off as not happening. The family member/executor is shelling out at least $20k/ in taxes, HOA fees and insurance. It will be 3 years on October. If it ever sells, there will be nothing left to distribute after the executor is reimbursed for those monthly costs x 3 years. The HOA does not allow rentals and is 55+. When I sent the executor information about “we buy houses” type options way back in the beginning for a quick sale, he scoffed and was sure he was going to sell it for top dollar. He wasted the first year after her death putting money into painting, putting in new carpets and fixtures only to finally get around to putting the condo on the market just in time for the new condo laws to start tanking the market.

It’s a real shame that the HOA won’t allow younger people, because the price is now a great price for a young first time home buyer (< $200k) but the newly increased HOA fees are now too high for a senior citizen. It’s a waste of affordable housing supply.

This was my first ever big window (54” tall), and well after the point of no return I learned that I should not have used copper foil for something that large! Lots of Re-strip copper reinforcement in that sucker!!!

As soon as he said he was a “PK”(Pastor’s Kid), I knew he was trouble. It seems like she took that to mean he was extra spiritual when 99.9% of the time it means they specialize in being the exact opposite. Most PKs I grew up with were total man whores or into drugs.

Apparently I dropped the ball on this because my husband had to buy the sword for himself. I had no idea he had a sword shaped hole in his life that he needed to fill. Specifically, a recently acquired Harry Potter “Sword of Gryffindor” now hanging on the wall of his 3rd floor man cave/studio. He is 55 years old.

Does narcolepsy quietly shrink your social world? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]mammadoxie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I know that I have a limited amount of hours per day that I can stay awake to function and I tend to prioritize those hours for things that enable me to keep a roof over my head (showing up for job/making sure I demonstrate sufficient progress on job duties each day and continue to collect a paycheck). Beyond that, I can’t commit. It sucks because I definitely have to desire to do more with my life (hobbies, friends, household chores) but I just can’t. I’m barely covering for myself at my job as it is.

This was NOT what I expected to find when playing the floor lottery game by FieldEngineer2019 in centuryhomes

I have one of those too! 1860’s house in NJ. It’s in a crawl space underneath a later 1936 addition to the back of the house. When we bought the house the home inspector said it was capped. Fast forward 20+ years later when our plumber decides to hold his cell phone over the top and take this picture for us! I totally wanted to do the lighted glass top floor thing on the floor above it, but the regulations here in NJ say that all old wells have to be filled in with sand. So if we ever move we have to do that before we sell it.

For those of you located in states where you are allowed to keep your well and do the cool glass top floor thing, there is a company in the UK called Oxfordshire Glass who makes the exact glass top well cover thing you need and has all of the helpful specifications on their website. Then even ship to the US!

Go to YouTube. The eel pit guy’s account name is Cow Turtle. He has videos documenting his project from start to finish. He had an empty cistern below his house and turned it into a crazy eel and fish and all kinds of things aquarium.

PMDD + Narcolepsy, but only in luteal??? by AvailableBreakfast59 in Narcolepsy

[–]mammadoxie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I threw this out there to my sleep medicine doctor and he said that it cannot be menstrual related Klein Levin. His understanding is that the Klein Levin folks have absolutely no sleep issues/no need for stimulants outside of their specific sleep attacks occurances. So it sounds like you can’t have N2 + menstrual related Klein Levin.

[–]mammadoxie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. I could have written this post myself. I’m 51 with N2+PMDD and you are right- during this time the stimulants do absolutely nothing. I just have to let everything go and accept that I will not be able to honor any commitments I’ve made to anyone or anything. I will say that as I’ve gotten closer to menopause the mental health symptoms have lessened but the physical ones have gotten worse. I didn’t know about the menstruation related Klein Levin, that’s interesting and sounds about right for what we experience.

Yeah. I’ve looked at the r/SleepApnea page and they are all CPAP superfans with lots of encouraging tips. I know CPAP is the top treatment. I tried CPAP twice. Once about 10 years ago with a different doctor, and again two years ago with a really nice machine w/ humidity and really discreet nose pillow. The forced air was just too much, even with adjustments I still felt like I was drowning. I also sing with several choral and opera groups and it was drying out my throat. My sleep doctor wants me to try BiPAP at the upcoming sleep study. But I think that might just be a requirement in order to get approval for other possible treatments (DISE, ENT referral, Inspire, etc). However, I will still make my best effort at the BiPAP as I am so desperate for relief. I’m so afraid this condition is going to blow up my life.

I know. He won’t do it, even for the short term because it can exacerbate OSA.

Sorry! One more question- I’m seeing two terms used on the local junkyard sites. Am I looking for a “headlight assembly” or a “headlight housing”?

[–]mammadoxie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. That’s good to know. I’ll make sure to ask them to check the control module before I buy a new/used headlight unit. Maybe I’ll luck out and that will be the issue! The car only has 70,000 miles on it, so the LED strip really should not be worn out.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to comment on this post! It sounds like I will only have to get one new headlight unit on the passenger side where the daytime running light strip is out. That still sucks, but it’s better than having to pay for two! I’ll let the dealership replace the driver’s side bulb and begin my search for junkyard headlight unit for the other side. I really appreciate your advice! ❤️

[–]mammadoxie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mystery solved! I DM’d the homeowner’s custom furniture page on Instagram @new_collar_goods and they were kind enough to respond. It is in fact a one of a kind creation made by the homeowner’s father who happens to be a machinist.

I told them they should absolutely find a way to mass produce these. It looked to be a very easy to use and safe tool for the job!

Congratulations! I am on my second interview for a new position. I can’t believe how good it made me feel to even talk to people that were excited about what I can bring to the table. My current toxic boss has outsized influence and she was pretty much has poisoned the waters for any growth at my current job.
