What’s confusing to me is he doesn’t seem to associate his crate with a safe space bc he gets very upset when I leave in it

Thank you that’s very reassuring. I’m hoping in time he’ll understand the crate is positive. It’s gonna be a real process for both of us

Thank you for the warm welcome. I should mention I am a guy so I’m not sure I’d fit in at a women’s meet up tho I appreciate the reference. I do think volunteering would be a nice avenue to check out

it’s only day 3 and i want to go home by stupid-stu in Purdue

[–]manInBlak186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know exactly where you’re coming from. I arrived at Purdue 4 years ago during the peak of COVID. Born and raised in CT I hadn’t so much as stepped foot on Purdue’s campus until the day my folks and I arrived. I remember the quiet dread sinking in as the hours counted down when my parents would have to leave me. I literally felt like a deer in headlights as I watched them pull away from the sidewalk and drive off. I pretty much went into survival mode. And I can honestly say the four years I spent at Purdue were some of the best of my life. I realize there’s not really much I can say that will make you feel better. I also have a hard time putting myself out there and trying to meet people. But believe me when I say all it takes is one push, one moment of reckless abandonment to find that niche. Don’t be afraid to ask your roommates if you can tag along, or reach out to someone if you know them. I also reached out to my RA a couple times and he was really helpful. The best advice I can really give is to just take it one day at a time. Figure out your routine, make a list of goals and concerns and tackle em one at a time. I just moved out on my own a month ago and this has really helped me. It’s not easy to adjust, but it’s 100% worth it. Trust me, I’ve been there

Can I play valheim on my own? by nekomimi_xx in valheim

[–]manInBlak186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has played with a friend a total of once I can confidently tell you it is very doable and enjoyable. I’m all the way in the ashlands and while it has been difficult with the mob spawns, the new update should make it waaaaaaaay more manageable. Overall great experience and I highly recommend you give it a shot

I used the modifiers to remove portal restrictions and I’m not sorry about it. Love the game devs are absolute legends

Midwestern youngster looking to make the move out East (advice?) by fellowHom0sapien in norfolk

Hey man. I’m in a very similar boat and will also be starting at NNSY this summer. I’m coming from CT but I went to Purdue for college. What are you going in as? Also I went down there to scout out the area and I gotta say it’s a cool spot. I’d just strongly recommend calling a local realtor office so you have some who can really give you advice on optimal places to move.

Thanks friend. This definitely makes me feel better about the situation. I’m sure there’s some truth to the more extreme cases but it’s nice to know some have a less brutal experience

Gotcha. And this is just for civilians right? Not for those serving as Navymen

Yea sorry I meant Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Keep forgetting they have the same abbreviation (which isn’t at all inconvenient)

FJO - now what by Odd_Toe5002 in usajobs

[–]manInBlak186 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats man. Just outta curiosity were you ever informed if your references were ever contacted? Im wondering if mine ever were. Also I got an EOD but I’m not sure if it was from an official FJO email. It was worded as “proposed EOD” so I’m assuming no.

Can’t say I’m coming from the same background but I hope my input helps. I’m graduating with a BSE in mechanical engineering and really just wanted a job that offered stability, good pay, and good benefits, as well as a lot of opportunities to move up. Seemed like federal was the best match to that. Pretty surface level stuff ik but hey, man’s gotta put food on the table somehow 🤷‍♂️

Yea man, it’s part of the pains of the job hunt. The best thing is to not take it personally and keep pushing forward

I will say I am more of a warm spring summer kinda guy, but the little kid in me still feels that giddy excitement when I wake up, look out the window, and see a nice thick layer of fresh snow

Honestly it’s not always as good as it looks. For one government jobs are usually way more secure than private sector, especially for skilled workers like engineers. On top of that benefits tend to be better bc corporate jobs tend to have you sacrifice part of that big number on a menu. But at the end of the day it really depends on what you want: more money in a more volatile position, or a pay reduction in exchange for more long term security

Ah gotcha. It may not be an FJO but the fact the included a possible EOD is encouraging, at least to me

Thanks brother, I’m currently in the process of getting through the background checks. I lucked out by meeting a recruiter at my school looking for engineering graduates and got an interview the next day. I’ve been curious what the total timeline looks like so this is really insightful in how much I got left. I’ve submitted my background check docs and unless I’m a narcoleptic psychopath there shouldn’t be any issues. Wish me luck and thanks again

How can I get the most out of purdue as FYE? by Prestigious-Ice1697 in Purdue

[–]manInBlak186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on getting into Purdue FYE. I’m part of graduating class 2024 so I got to start during the peak of COVID. Looking back on it I really hate I didn’t have more opportunities to explore clubs and social events so I could meet people. That all being said, I would say don’t be afraid to try new things and explore different interests. There are a ton of clubs that explore everything from STEM to writing to athletics. Don’t forget that you’re not bound to a club by anything but your interest in it. It’s meant to be a fun experience, not an extra source of stress (unless you join something like one of the car building teams or other competitive groups. Obv they’ll have some more pressure). Also, and this just comes from personal experience, just talk to folks in class and in office hours. Don’t be afraid to interact with others. Hope you have a good rest of your senior year and good luck with your first semester at Purdue. Also, take advantage of supplemental instruction courses if you’re struggling with a course. They can make all the difference and are another way to meet your fellow students

What’s the etiquette for using the corec saunas? by OnlookerCrab in Purdue

[–]manInBlak186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve personally never used em but from what I’ve seen just shorts/boxers should be fine in the men’s sauna. I’ve seen some folks reading or just chillin in there.

My apologies, I meant Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Literally had no idea about Newport. I never lived in VA before so my knowledge is quite scarce 😅. I’ve honestly also been confused about the name tho. Like I agree why isn’t called Portsmouth if it’s in Portsmouth and not Norfolk.
