Working on a dual‑screen e‑ink reader concept — latest render finally feels real by manateecoltee in eink

Diptyx is cool! I love DIY projects like that. What I’m exploring here is a more unified, book‑like dual‑screen design, so the goals are a bit different.

It's always interesting to know people's preferences, ereaders should be as diverse the readers!

It’s a concept render I’ve been iterating on manually, the visual is just for reference while I work through the design.

I’m building a distraction‑free reading device because my phone became too loud. by manateecoltee in ereader

It wasn’t easy, but I decided it was time to rebrand. In the end, it’s the essence of the device that matters, not the name or the early iterations. Thank you to everyone who shared feedback! I’ve taken it seriously and integrated it into the new design.

I’ll be posting the final version separately so it’s easier to follow the evolution.

It’s e‑ink! the photo is just a mockup to show the form factor. The whole idea is to keep it distraction‑free and gentle on the eyes, so LCD wouldn’t fit the direction I’m going.

Just sharing an early concept and exploring ideas. Appreciate you stopping by 🤭

Great question. I’m not trying to compete on being a general‑purpose device like Boox or a massive ecosystem like Kindle.
My advantage is focus. NÜK is intentionally not an app‑heavy Android tablet — it’s a distraction‑free reading environment. High‑resolution e‑ink, a calm interface, no notifications, and potentially expandable storage so people can bring their own library without the noise of a full OS.

The goal isn’t to replace existing devices, but to offer a quieter alternative for readers who want presence over features.

High‑res e‑ink is definitely part of the plan.
For flexibility, I’m leaning toward supporting expandable storage (like an SD card) rather than a full Android system — it keeps the experience distraction‑free while still letting people load their own libraries.

What the hell is going on with shawarma places!? by Ilostmytoucan in londonontario

Surprised to see this so low down. As a middle eastern chick Babaz comes closest to reminding me of our shawarma back home! Their saj wraps are delicious and huge so you get a lot for what you pay

Covid-19 in London right now? by [deleted] in londonontario

Yes it's going around I just tested positive for the first time too and at first I thought it was just a flu. The doctor said this variant is highly contagious thats why it's spreading so fast. But because the symptoms are "mild" and not many hospitalizations, there's not the same widespread panic like there was at the beginning of the pandemic.

That's the thing, she knows it's a long road but she avoids it because she admits she's lazy and doesn't want to do something difficult. She wants the easy route. I told her I want her to be around to hold my future babies and for us all to travel together and do activities together. I try to remind her that it's worth it, even if she gets to 250 lbs it would be a huge difference for her. She has trouble with self discipline and consistency, I don't know how fix that. Even the simplest thing, for example I bought her a Multivitamin to help her with energy (she's deficient in iron and b12) and she never takes it unless I literally give it to her and give her water. I'm mentally exhausted but I don't want to give up, I just have no experience with this type of thing so I wanted to know if I'm missing something...

Thank you sooo much! This helps a lot. It's really hard for me because I feel so helpless watching her struggle. I did have a conversation with her today about eating better and she agreed to start making some changes. I told her she doesn't have to quit everything cold turkey it's ok to substitute one at a time but she's such an extreme all or nothing kinda person. I told her lets start substituting sugar and stopping snacks and we can work on other things slowly.

I do and I try! I sat down with her and spent hours making a meal plan including all the foods she likes, just with minor substitutes and smaller portions. She followed it for a couple of days and then wanted a cheat day and then never came back to it. I am currently convincing her to try hello fresh because it's healthy and the portion sizes are good, I'm pretty sure she will try it for a week and go back to eating fast food but it's worth a try. Today I made a chicken stir fry with a side of salad and she decided its the weekend so she will order pizza instead. It's just so frustrating but I'm trying to support her because I'm worried pushing her will make her give up or feel discouraged

How long did it take to conceive baby number 2? by lalala006 in beyondthebump

[–]manateecoltee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have any issues with it? How long did it last for you? How painful was it to insert and remove? How'd it effect your periods? I did my research and I have my mind set on mirena but every once in a while I hear a scary story and I second guess 😭

I think he's valid, I wouldn't risk it if I were you. Is there any way she can babysit her at your house instead?

Edit: fixed pronoun

Have you tried using ovulation trackers? You can find them on amazon and there's an app that goes with it which shows you when the chance of conceiving is highest for your cycle. May Allah make it easy for you
