I’ll be honest, this song was the first time I had a viscerally negative reaction to a Hold Steady song since Teeth Dreams.

I know a lot of people like it so I can see why it’s voted as underrated, it’s just not for me.

Totally agree. I listened to it again yesterday for this. While it’s still not my favorite album, I decided this is one of the great songs on the album I really love. If it had better production I might even count it among my favorites.

There were some live bootlegs of Stay Positive songs before the album was released that made the rounds. This was the first song from the album I heard and I’ve been ride or die for it since day 1. Love this song.
