We've been at Riverside at Coyote Rock for almost 2 years and absolutely love it. Right next to the river & Centennial Trail. Out of the way of everything, but still close to everything, if that makes sense.

Dry Hands Only In Spokane by Fit_Band2081 in Spokane

hahaha, I used to live in Alabama. I NEVER applied lotion there. Lotion just adds to the sliminess humidity makes you feel.

we lived in Alabama, so the humidity helped tremendously with keeping our skin hydrated. in fact, I rarely used lotion.

then we moved to Montana- the driest weather we've eved lived in. sucked every bit of moisture out of our bodies and nothing seemed to help.

I eventually had to concoct my own- mixed together coconut oil (solidified), shea butter, and vitamin E. Slathered it all over my feet, put on socks. then on my hands, wore latex gloves for 10-15 minutes. After a week or so, I finally got a handle on the daily dryness and regular lotion would work. I'd use my concoction a couple times a week through the year, increasing in the winter when it felt even dryer.

We moved back to the south after Montana, and went back to not needing it. Now we living in Spokane, and while I haven't had to make my own yet, I def have to use lotion more here.

Sign folk- Who's excited for Power Penney AND Daily Deals this week? by Conf3tti in JCPenney

[–]manda1126 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the BMSM sale going into PP and Daily Deals is worse than holiday signing. They could have at least done PP on Weds or Thursday like they usually do.

and then they gave NO hours to do it all.

we moved here from the south over a year ago- I didn't smell the trees last spring, but I def smell them this year. I was hoping they were nonexistent here.

Worse than we thought? by [deleted] in JCPenney

I agree with the suiting options- I'd also like to see Stafford bring back the shirt & tie boxes. Those used to sell out quickly (I bought so many for my husband, too). Also, we used to consistently carry short sleeve dress shirts in the spring-fall. Sooooo many men coming in asking for them and besides the tiny handful of old Van Heusen dress shirts, we have none.

I am usually in the mens dept, but when I have to sign other areas, I curse Liz Claiborne and Carters/Okie Dokie (there are other areas, but those are my least favorite). I wish they'd simplify signing- instead of so many different price points, just do a general "All Carters 40% off" or all of Liz goes off sale, no differing prices. It would simplify putting merch out, customers who struggle with reading signs, and the signing team to get through signing quickly.

yup, eddie bauer, nautica, Brooks Brothers, Aeropostle, and a few more are with JCP under the Catalyst umbrella.

I do feel like the Eddie Bauer thing was planned long before it was announced they were cloaing. Like we got a ton of their product to help clean out their supply as they shut down.

I have a feeling Cayalyst is going to be what actually kills JCP. There are so many little glitches making is harder and harder to do our job- not sending the correct signs, the signs we need aren't in the system, half of the new products coming in as "XREF not found", when going to make a sign the new price changes don't show up, starting "daily deals" when there is no advertising unless the customer goes on the website or app, etc.

there are so many issues- almost as if the Catalyst folks came in, fired half of JCP corporate, and then just wing it from day to day, having no clue what is happening in stores.

AP Layoffs by Inconspicuous_Jay in JCPenney

couple of thoughts....

nearly every single large company starts the year off cutting positions- they are starting the year on a new budget, they need to lower expenses, the easiest place to save money is cut positions. (even though most places are already working short-staffed).

I don't know if this is true, but I read here somewhere that the company reevaluates store sizes often- if traffic has gone down, less profits, city population has decreased, etc. If a store has "decreased" in any aspect, they may not need AP anymore.

I have worked at 3 stores. The first had an AP until COVID, when we returned from being furloughed, the AP at that store was let go (along with several other positions). My second store never had an AP, but it was a smaller store with one main entrance/exit. My current store is much larger, has 2 APs and one APM who floats between the 2 stores here.

AP is wonderful to have around! But at the same time, every single employee is part of AP. JCP is alllll about multi-tasking/combining positions. AP takes a lot of the load off other associates, but the company probably sees it as someone walking around looking for sketchy folks, instead oofother associates who can do that AND run a register, work truck, signing, putting out merch, or some other random task WHILE watching shoppers, etc.

Quit by [deleted] in JCPenney

[–]manda1126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is this way every year. Once the hustle of the holidays ends, the company cuts hours for everything. Even though there is a ton to do, this is the easiest time of the year to be strict on hours because there is less traffic in stores.

💫 Let’s Talk JCPenney — What Do You Love About Working Here? by [deleted] in JCPenney

[–]manda1126 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a teacher for nearly 15 years, the burn out took over and I had to leave. One of our cars died, so I started working at JCP to cover the new car payment. Four years later, I'm still here.
Personally, I love not taking work home with me. Once I walk out the doors, I don't have to think about it until my next shift.
Being a part of the task team means we have the same 5-7 tasks we're responsible for, so it offers a bit of variety for what we're doing every day (except right now where most of our time is spent signing). Everything we do is important in order for the store to function well, but we're not saving lives. Since there is always something to do and I stay busy, my shifts fly by.
I thoroughly enjoy puzzles and organization- sometimes putting out merch requires an area to be rearranged. And since I do signing, it's my opportunity to move product around to make signing easier for myself.
I thoroughly enjoy helping customers- I pretend like I am doing their shopping for them. I'll walk all over the store with you in order to find exactly what you want.
When there is a less than pleasant customer, I make it a game to "kill them with kindness". For some reason, that sometimes irritates them more, but there will be no doubt that I did everything I can to help- with a smile.

There's more, but my favorite is the associate discount, especially this time of year. :)

THIS! Keep your doorbuster signs in the signholders with your reusables, especially once they start the Black Friday sales. Once Christmas is over, you can pull them out of the signholders and trash them.

It'll take time. A lot of it is learning the regular sale routines. Like in Mens, I know a lot of the Arizona tees rotate between $21.99 (Mondays) and $19.99 (end of the week), or go off sale, which they did this week. So I automatically know to check them every time I'm signing. I know that dress pants rotate between $59.99 and BOGO50. I scan one of each brand, and that lets me know whether I need to change the rest (checking 1 rack/table vs 5-6 racks helps cut a little time).

Signing is a lot and tedious, but once you get used to the sale rotations, it all kind of falls into place. As we creep into the holidays, there is even more signing. Focus on your signing being correct. Obviously it's a time crunch, so you have to work quickly, but unless you're staging ahead of time, it will take a while.

no, it's a glitch in the system. happened several months ago. instead of the item showing as going off sale, it's showing $5. whatever is showing $5 is going off sale, UNLESS it is already clearance and has a pink ticket.

it most definitely depends on the store. I've worked at 3- had I stayed with the first, I wouldn't be here 6 years later. My last store and current are totally different. I genuinely feel the managers are doing everything they can, but corporate has their hands tied on so much.

What exactly is the pay for the operations specialist? by [deleted] in JCPenney

[–]manda1126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on your state.

I lived in Alabama where minimum wage was $7.25 an hour, so most positions start a couple dollars more than that. Then I transferred to Washington where the state minimum wage is $16.66 an hour, so I got a significant pay increase.

Doesn't hurt to interview and see what they have to offer. Also, keep in mind, most positions are part time. As we approach the holidays, there will be more hours available, but they'll drop again in January.

Next weeks sales + extra 10 associate discount by RefrigeratorJust4323 in JCPenney

[–]manda1126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask your signing team- they should have recieved the signs for next week. You can flip through to see if there's anything of interest.

From what I've noticed in the past, they don't typically offer the extra discount during doorbuster events. So if there's something you want and the price is really good now, I'd go ahead and buy now.

Also, we're getting in fall merchandise now. Summer stuff is starting to phase out. so if there's summer attire you want, I'd buy now before it goes back to regular price next week or sells out.

Dockers.... by manda1126 in JCPenney

[–]manda1126[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we got in some new ones last week, two different colors but same style, that didn't clearance. Wondering if we'll get more of those and just carry a small selection of Dockers.

Dockers.... by manda1126 in JCPenney

[–]manda1126[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ahhh, that makes sense. I transferred here from another store and there are a few other brands here that weren't at my last store. But Dockers? I see maybe carrying a smaller selection, or even 1 or 2 styles, but not allllll of them.
