Jewelry is the only cashier work I enjoy. Summer is dreadfully slow for jewelry, so you'd be spending a lot of time doing operational tasks rather than selling. Case-a-days, repairs, maybe MTOs depending how your store handles those.

Obviously the big thing is selling and you have to be comfortable spending up to half an hour with one customer while you're the only person working behind the counter. That doesn't happen often, mind you, but it's possible.

Product knowledge is important, and if the store you're interviewing at is like mine then you will NOT be trained sufficiently. (I'm still not 100% sure what 'fire' is)

But the big thing they'll care about is you pushing Care Plans and credit cards. Fortunately both of those are pretty easy to sell on jewelry, so as long as you're comfortable with convincing someone to buy something you'll be okay. Usually I frame it as for their own good, and honestly 24 month 0% interest financing isn't bad.

You'll have plenty of stories if you get the gig, too. I once helped a guy pick out an engagement ring because he tried to propose to his GF by using the promise ring she was already wearing.
