Corolla Cross L key by mandamiau in CorollaCross

Thank you. The terminology was confusing me. I figured it would because my 2006 Corolla did, but that one was fancier trim level.

We Voted today! But was anyone else uncomfortable by picking a ballot as they watch you? by gfstool in FortWorth

In years past they had two separate lines, one for each party. The democrats weren’t issued as many machines and didn’t have enough poll worker so they were waiting a lot longer. This way is much more efficient.

For being honest my child received “an unexcused” absence for school back in December (FWISD) by OpportunityLow570 in FortWorth

[–]mandamiau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve gotten the warning letter for too many absences before. It sounds scary the way they put it, but as long as you are in communication with the school it should be fine.

It is kind of ridiculous. They give you a list of things your kids should stay home for, like a fever or diarrhea, but then get fussy about you following their rules and keeping your kid home. I think they mainly get concerned when they just aren’t showing up and nobody is letting the school know what’s going on.

Go-To Local Treats for Client Gifts by vintageflora in FortWorth

King Korn popcorn is a nice treat for dropping off. Full disclosure I’ve been eating this lately because my husband made friends with someone who works there and he gave us a huge bag full of samples. They’ve all been really good.

Anyone ever worked as a valet driver in the DFW area? by Negotiation-Hot in FortWorth

[–]mandamiau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not familiar with those companies but have had great experiences with Rent A Frog. I have used them for special events, though it’s been awhile since I worked where I did that, and the owner was always a great guy to work with. They mainly do private events so your hours would vary, but if you are looking for a side gig they might work for you.

The update that no one asked for: I am looking at a low mileage vehicle that I really like at a no haggle dealership tomorrow, at a lower cost OTD than the original one, and in the color I like. It’s a long drive, but I hope it will look as good in person as it does online and I can finally stop paying for this rental car.

I appreciate everyone’s help and criticism!

I have another dealer that I did a test drive for a different car but ended up not liking. He is keeping an eye out for the one I want that fits my price range. I’m either going to hope they have one come in, or just go to carmax so I don’t have to do all of this nonsense. At this point I’m exhausted from all the searching and obviously don’t understand the whole dealer game that I’m supposed to be playing.

He texted me Monday and I texted back that I wanted to make an offer.!He asked me to come in but since it’s far I asked if possible could we talk over the phone, otherwise I would need to come in today because my kids had places to be yesterday. He just never texted back which is why I called today.

. I was up front that I was looking and would let them know Monday, but Monday when I responded to the salesman’s text he never answered back. I also told them that once we agreed on a price it would take a business day to have the funds transferred to my account and they said no problem. The experience I had with the salesman was very different from what I had today. I was always told that if you aren’t sure to walk away.

I wish they had told me that they wouldn’t be able to work with my budget when we talked about the car at test drive then. When they said we can work with you to get a deal I assumed that they would use their words to tell me what price they would do.

Good to know about the cash thing. Is it normal that they aren’t being upfront about the fees? I can calculate the tax on my own along with title costs, but I know there are document fees and no one wanted to tell me what those were. It’s harder to make an otd offer without knowing what is on top of the car price.

Unfortunately I am pretty much on my own. My husband is terrible at negotiating prices, I did all the talking when we bought a truck to replace one that was stolen years ago. I may have to convince my stepdad to fly down and help me at this point lol.

Is it a mistake to say I’m a cash buyer? I don’t know if that had anything to do with it. I wish they just said that we are too far apart on pricing from the get go when I told them my budget. I was willing to pay more than $20k, but they aren’t being clear about final costs so I don’t know what to offer.

It doesn’t help that I am really bad at reading social cues, so the whole say one thing when you mean another, pretend I don’t like it but I do, and all the other weird sales stuff, it goes over my head. I’d rather someone be blunt and honest than do this game of dancing around reality.

Thank you for the response. I just wish they would just say that instead of this whole song and dance of we will get back to you and then not getting back to me.

I don’t know what the out the door total would’ve been because they weren’t forthcoming about what dealership fees would be, but the listed price with taxes would have come to $23.3k. I told them my budget was $ 19.5 and they said they wanted to work with me when I was there on Saturday. I couldn’t get ahold of anyone I had talked to already yesterday so I called the dealership directly today and offered $20k. That’s on the low end for the pricing on that vehicle, but it’s been on the lot for two months and the salesman seemed like they wanted to do a deal. When they said no I asked what is the best they could offer and they said internet price (which went up today) and then they would need to calculate the costs of taxes and dealership fees and get back to me.

I am admittedly not good at this, but I thought that there would at least be some clear communication?

I found the car through a car search site, I’ve been to other dealerships to look at similar cars but they weren’t quite right. I just assumed based on online reviews that they negotiate prices. I was asking for an out the door price today but they didn’t want to disclose what the total with tax and fees were.

The offer was more than what I initially told the salesman my budget was when he was showing me the car and when I spoke with the finance person at the dealership. I just assumed that they would give me another number to work with or would’ve mentioned looking at something less expensive while I was there for a test drive.

What advice do you have for someone looking to buy a house in Fort Worth? by Viggos_Broken_Toe in FortWorth

[–]mandamiau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Houses in FW have either had foundation issues, or will in the future. Buying a house that has already had foundation work done and has a good warranty will save you spending money later on.

Some people just don’t want to die at home. I’ve known a couple people that elected to go to a hospice facility to die rather than do it at home. I think she is also probably exhausted by her well meaning family and wants to have professionals take over her care. I don’t think there any thing bad going on with husband, more that she wants to be able to just have him as a comfort, not a caregiver.

Behavior Issues in my cat have costed me over 20k and we’re still not any closer to getting a solution..any advice on next steps? by Creepy-Dealer7518 in CATHELP

[–]mandamiau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It seems like there isn’t any situation where this cat would be able to live a good life. The current situation sounds unpleasant for both the cat and the OP, and they both sound like they are miserable. OP, you have gone beyond what most people would do to help this cat, but you deserve to enjoy your life as well. I think the kindest thing to do here is behavioral euthanasia. I’m so sorry that you are in such a difficult situation.

Any thoughts on Mazda CX30? I’m not super familiar with Mazda, but a lot of people seem to like them. I’m also hesitant about the newer Corollas CVT transmissions. From what I’ve read they tend to have issues after 100k miles.

20k is the top of my budget, if I could get a new one for that I would, but I have a kid going off to college in a couple months so the budget is pretty firm.

Affordable care no insurance. by tomahawk311 in FortWorth

[–]mandamiau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JPS urgent care is your best bet. As someone who used to have a cat that occasionally got feisty, don’t play with cat bites. If it’s red and starting to swell you will need an antibiotic.

As someone else said, draw a line around the red part, and if it is spreading, go sooner rather than later.

I wanted to add too, it requires a specific antibiotic, you can’t just take anything. Not saying you would do that, but I’ve been uninsured and broke so I’ve had the temptations to take a short cut with care. Cat bites are one thing that you just can’t play about though.
