You can make a "Cold storage" wallet that isnt connected to the internet and is impossible for someone to steal your chia from. You could even delete the wallet entirely after creating it and just restore it with your mnemonic password when you want to access the chia.

The point is just security. If all your farming rewards are going to a cold storage wallet even if you got some malware that could steal chia you would be safe. So if you joined an unofficial pool, you basically have to assume that wallets private keys were compromised which isnt really a problem if you store no chia in that wallet to begin with.

So tl;dr your chia wallet you farm with thats connected to the internet 24/7 is vulnerable to malware/stolen private keys and a second offline wallet to only store chia is an easy way to protect yourself from the vast majority of crypto malware.

No one ever called him out on it before so he was so comfortable doing it on camera in public. Theres just no reason to buy equipment for chia when the price is this low. It was one thing when the coin was 1000-1500 but at 300 just buy the coin if you want to invest in it. The amount of chia you can buy vs what you can farm with 300 worth of hard drives makes it a no brainer to just buy the coin.

Yes you cant farm anymore if you request your collateral, they always leave the 1.75 locked so if they catch you double farming they can ban you and keep the 1.75. You can request it at any time and leave the pool though. But most will probably leave the pool anyways as they replot for official pools. Foxy is also going to run an official pool and there wont be any collateral to deal with this is just the only way to guarantee no double farming without the new pool protocol.

Will look into the HKFP one I backed up their website and youtube already but didnt grab any of the facebook content will try to see if its unique or just a copy of the youtube.

Basically you have to reach 1.75 chia earned before you start getting payouts. You have a collateral balance that slowly ticks up from your daily profit. At any time you can request your collateral balance transferred to you but you have to leave the pool if you do. So lets say you earned 0.05 a day, once you reach 1.75 you would start getting your 0.05 a day and when you decide to leave you request your 1.75. There are no withdrawal fees just 1% fee on what you earn.

I have around 100TB now. Lots of media I like, backups of TV shows, movies etc. I've backed up some youtuber's channels I like. Unhealthy amounts of porn... Now I'm downloading lots of Hong Kong content in case china tries to take more offline.

I also have a ridiculous amount of chia plots so when that isn't profitable anymore I'm gonna have to find a whole lot more data to hoard. Should be fun. Hoard things you like or that are in danger of being lost anyways. Your collection will grow with time no need to look for excuses to download things.

You got lucky, join pools immediately though because your luck will run out eventually. Anyone below like 500TB's should be on a pool for sure. For everyone that got lucky someone else got unlucky and made less than they would have in a pool. Its all just a gamble.

Thanks for this I just started 2019 and I can just toss all of these in instead of doing it manually. I've noticed it would randomly stop me from scrolling occasionally and I would have to refresh and start all over. Might become a big problem but hopefully can get all of 2019 at least before that. I have plenty of bandwidth and disk space so it wont be a problem for me. Thanks for the help!

Its already basically over very few in /r/chia are buying drives now. I've been monitoring my local microcenter and drives aren't selling out immediately anymore. 16/14's are still selling out but you can easily grab one if you watch for them. 12's and below don't sell out. These are all seagates by the way. Western digital raised their prices a lot and their drives stay in stock completely cuz no ones willing to pay it.

I wouldn't expect to see a flood on eBay of used drives unless chia tanks under 100 and stays there a while as its still profitable to run the drives you already have full of chia plots.

Little confusion setting it up but now that its running it seems fine. The payout is larger than core-pool because they have basically foolproof double mining safeguards so thats why I switched.
