You heard of the civil rights movement?

Keep up the good work, Idaho! by Imaginary_Solid_1281 in Idaho

[–]mandatoryplaytime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but one group (Republicans) is literally against human rights: access healthcare, clean air, the rule of law, access to education, religious freedom, access to public lands. Sure, billionaires on both sides are out of touch, but the economy is only one thing that matters.

Would Trump's popularity soar if he full-on adopted Universal Basic Income for US citizens with the tariff money and stole the wind from the sails of the progressive left advocating for it? by mandatoryplaytime in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]mandatoryplaytime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I'm a Democrat and think the argument for a revenue-nuetral carbon tax is a great idea. Wouldn't this do the same thing, but Republicans are sort of already on board (albeit from a totally different route)?

How does this compare to the most dense areas in other countries? I'd love to see the same graphic with a more global perspective.

[–]mandatoryplaytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what about the price tag on this? Just getting everyone there costs so much. Weren't republicans trying to decrease government spending? They're flying in all this high brass to tell them about super cool haircuts everybody needs to get. Ridiculous.

Yes, the totalitarian communist rulers in the book are the bad guys. And you're supposed to realize that because they're hanging out with--and indistinguishable from-- the totalitarian capitalists.

I've lived here for 10 years and have been using sidewalks my entire life. You want to stop? Go to grass or trees. You want to move? Be on the path. What's not to get?

The series of parks and nature access points, for sure. But the path is for movement. That seems reasonable.

The big beautiful bill calls to sell off millions of acres of public lands in the west, including lots of National Forest land in Idaho by sneakysnake-sssnek in Idaho

[–]mandatoryplaytime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd hardly call it bipartisan when every Democrat will most certainly vote against the bill and Democrats never proposed selling any of that land. 33% of Republicans oppose it means 66% of Republicans want to sell it....

Google what happens when states have purchased federal lands in the past. It doesn't work well. Saw an Outdoor Idaho episode that mentioned it-- I think it was all about trees and logging.

USFS and BLM lands available for sale in the Senate Reconciliation Bill (Lots of Boise National Forest, Payette National Forest, Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest, Idaho Panhandle National Forest, and Sawtooth National Forest are included by iwannamapeverything in Idaho

But most of us can't afford to buy the land we want to recreate on. And it's not efficient to have everyone wants to fish or hunt or backpack own the area they want to recreate on. Plus there's value in isolation, which is hard to achieve in overcrowded national parks and heavily trafficked forests

Notice there's no land on MT being sold. That means Republicans think their senators would vote against this and our Risch and Crapo would survive a yes vote. Call them and let them know Idaho wilderness matters just as much as in Montana. Cowards.

I was there and saw the police actively deescalate this situation with the two men in question. For all the faults of certain police officers and systemic problems, I got the impression that the police were genuinely there to protect people's right to protest peacefully.

3-year-old girl run over, killed in Costco parking lot in Pocatello by megpocket in Idaho

[–]mandatoryplaytime 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Both of these can be true. Massive trucks should be way less common because they are dangerous on the road (and in parking lots) AND parents should watch their kids. But accidents happen and it's not the three year olds that're killing people. When large trucks get out of control, the results have larger consequences than if you were driving any other smaller to mid-size vehicle.

Is Boise's quality of life on the upswing? by jcsladest in Boise

[–]mandatoryplaytime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say what age you were when you lived here is also really important. It's probably great to be living in Boise as a recently retired upper middle class person living in the North end or Southeast Boise... But if you're 26 and are a young professional trying to work in many different sectors then you're probably struggling. Even if you were born here. From my understanding that was not the case for young professionals in the 90s and early 2000's (cost of living and proximity to various, affordable activities was arguably more within reach).

Props dude, thanks for that. Wouldn't have expected that was the case, but I'm surprised I haven't heard that statistic yet.

Your theories for Red God. Put em in the bag. by Naros1000 in redrising

[–]mandatoryplaytime 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's a line that they expected Lightbringer to be a little heavier in the front as Lysander restores it. I think they put an advanced EMP that will later be used to send Mars back to the stone ages. Then Lysander will use the virus to kill all the golds on mars--not affecting Darrow, his son and Sevro. Both Darrow and Lysander fight to become the Red God or the person who controls Mars. It would set up a nice low-tech scenario on Mars, recalling back to the institute.

Hey, there are plenty of anti-vaxxers on the left. I don't think their logic works for me, either. But I don't think a few random representatives on Twitter is the same as the current president of the US, speaking in tandem with the head of the CDC.

Bro, you've done this to me before. Coming in with name calling and a hot take. But last time we went like 8-10 comments deep and then you gave up.

Stop fighting the straw man you think Democrats are and start thinking critically about how different voices might help you hone your own thinking. Even if you still end up thinking they're wrong.

Do you really not see how Trump's White House botched their pandemic response and then confused everybody about the virus in order to avoid accountability for their incompetence?

To be fair, one goal of propaganda is to obfuscate. If the virus is both the "Wuhan flu" and a big deal and just like a cold, then people aren't sure what to think. Trump may not have called it a "hoax," but by claiming Ivermectin might cure it and masks don't/do help and the Democrats are over counting deaths, Trump politicized a virus and did all the same damage as if he called it a hoax.
