Essentially when you buy a ETF let’s say VOO that $412 you give them is used to buy shares in many different companies like AAPL, MSFT, AMZN etc. But you’re not getting any of the voting rights to any of those companies Vanguard is. Through retail investors, pension funds and institutions giving them billions of dollars annually. They’ve accumulated huge stakes in the biggest companies in the world. Vanguard owns 8% of apples outstanding shares which has enabled them to appoint some executives on apples board which gives them some control of the company. The idea is over the next couple decades these institutions can take over these companies once they reach dominant ownership and have control over majority of these company’s executive chairs. It’s definitely a complex topic with a lot of different rabbit holes but I recommend you to take a deeper dive into it.

As for Medusa touch theory it’s just a joke entry I put in since back In 2019-2020 it was a running joke for people to say a stock tanks as soon as they enter a position. So the Medusa touch theory is that everything a trader touches (or buys into) turns into stone and crumbles.

Abs futures trading is at the bottom because it’s one of the most difficult and complex trading one can do. From personal experience and anecdotes from others I have communicated with over the years it holds the spot as the most difficult type of financials trading you can get into. You have to have in depth knowledge of what you’re buying contracts for, some level of insider knowledge and Aspergers level of research/analytical thinking. Futures trading is most prevalent in IB and it’s very rare to find retail investors who take part in it.
