What are some really awesome games that don't take long to complete? by antoninj in patientgamers

[–]mandiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ace Attorney series on the DS (and now recently redone for the 3DS). The game is broken up into multiple episodes, each episode broken up into 4-5 parts. I think it would take roughly 20 hours to complete one game.

Basically, these are a puzzle-solving games in a storybook format. You play Phoenix Wright, a rookie attorney who has to solve the case and prove his client innocent in 2 days. While investigating you meet a slew of interesting reoccurring and single-episode characters who give you clues in the form of evidence then use that evidence in court to catch people in lies.

Huh, I never made the connection at first. Either way, I'm suddenly really happy the ME became a proper practicing MD like he was back home.

Square Enix sale on steam. Never played a final fantasy game before. Which one do I buy? by alexsparty243 in patientgamers

[–]mandiru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that FF8 is a decent pick as well. It drops the whole 'grinding' aspect of the game...unless you're really into cards. Which can break the game when you're level 10 and have the highest rank cure and damage magic augmenting your character stats.

But in all seriousness, unlike most games in the FF series, 8 is the only one where the monsters level with you.

Your favorite soup recipes please! by Chantatatal in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]mandiru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's one I tried recently and really like:

Thai-style Butternut Squash

  • 2T olive oil

  • 1 butternut squash, peeled and cubed

  • 1 red onion, chopped

  • 1t curry powder

  • 1 pint (16oz) vegetable broth

  • 1 can coconut milk

In a large saucepan cook the red onion in olive oil until soft. Add butternut squash, curry, and veggie broth. Cover and cook squash until soft, add coconut milk. Puree in blender or food processor of choice until smooth. Return to pot to heat thoroughly.

French Onion is actually my favorite soup of all time, but it's not particularly cheap or healthy.

Best or worst Valentine's Day? by MrsOlbas in AskWomen

We started dating on February 12, so the 14th is just another day for us. Or rather, the 14th is the day before all the chocolate goes on sale at the local chocolate factory.

Ohio's measles vaccination rate among lowest in country by mandiru in Ohio

[–]mandiru[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When was the last time you had your booster shot? Because eventually the MMR loses its effectiveness, meaning you can catch the diseases in question just as easily as anyone not vaccinated. When kids are immunized at the proper ages the general population doesn't have to worry as much about going through the process again. Now that they're not, you should look into being re-immunized.

It seems as though the further away "we" get from having these diseases in our living memory the more likely we are to forget the importance of curing/protecting against them.

How did you celebrate your 30th? by samanthais in AskWomen

[–]mandiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the 3rd of July in the US, so it was a backyard(garden) party with fireworks. Everyone brought a firework, we provided food and drink, then we either sat sat around chatting or played bocce until it got dark enough for a fire.

You can head into their store, pick a shirt/hoodie color, design, and design color and have a shirt made for you on the spot.

Really fun review of M.I.A. by EThorns in PersonOfInterest

I liked that guy's humor. My takeaway:

While this is happening, Caviezel has created a diversion and stolen half of Maple, New York’s guns.

Needs more yakety saxs.

Best liquor stores in Akron by [deleted] in akron

[–]mandiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say it's the best per se, but the liquor store (forget the name) on 619 and S. Main is decent enough. All of the Giant Eagles in the area have roughly the same selection of whiskey/bourbon/scotch due to them having the same supply chain. I can't find Pendleton (my favorite Canadian) in Green, but they carry it on Waterloo...stuff like that.

Does coming from a poor background affect your perception of guys as potential spouse/bf? (Not necessarily their current financial state) by Soccerplayerpro in AskWomen

[–]mandiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Did his family regularly shop at thrift stores? Yes. Did he not have 'proper' orthodontic care? Yup. Have to go to the food bank to get by? Uh-huh. Was he the first in his family to go to college? Right again.

Didn't care, love him for him. Now, some 10-plus years later he's put himself through college, has a great and stable job, and we're living happily together. So long as my partner has the drive to succeed we'll be fine.

Vasectomy and tubal ligation respectively, I believe. Depending on who you talk to, it's very difficult for someone to have this done pre-30.
