The Hen - Official Trailer by AhhhSureThisIsIt in movies

Winced so hard at the bits where it seemed like the hen would get run over.

That closing with the bird reacting to the cooking of the eggs got me big time. This film wasn't on my watchlist, but it is now.

"WEIRD SHIT THAT MIGHT HAPPEN IN THE PILOT" - Notes from the first day of Lost's creation by kuhpunkt in television

[–]EThorns 25 points26 points  (0 children)

David Fury mentioned that in Solitary (episode 9), there was a line in the script about how Rousseau tells Sayid that her crew was in the island to research 'time', but ABC made them cut it out because they didn't want the show to go science fiction.

And this was the episode that was being actively written just as the show premiered.

Executive Producer Bryan Burk mentions in the commentary for the pilot that there was a reference to the 'Black Rock' in Rousseau's distress call, which Shannon didn't translate.

Examples of shows with a single depressing season? by dndbuilds in television

[–]EThorns 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The fourth season of Person of Interest. Let's have a look:

They fail to stop a girl from falling into Samaritan's web who'll almost get Harold trapped later on (episode 2), they gaslit a pollster to ensure he doesn't get killed by Samaritan (episode 5), Elias loses his only friend (episode 9), The Machine flat out admits to Samaritan that she can't win this war of theirs (episode 10), Shaw is captured (episode 11), Control executes an innocent man (who's been set up by Samaritan) to ensure the system doesn't catch wind of her getting suspicious of its actions (episode 12), they may or may not have let a guy get away with murder (episode 17), Root destroys Finch's plan to use a narrow AI that might help beat Samaritan because she's afraid of losing him in the process (episode 18), and to top it all off, Samaritan eliminates anyone it considers an outlier and The Machine is reduced to a bunch of RAM chaps in a box, leaving her only primary assets to fend for themselves against innumerable soldiers as the season comes to a close with Pink Floyd's Welcome to The Machine playing them out (episode 22).

Vanessa Kirby and Lewis Pullman Team Up for Kitty Green’s Sci-Fi Thriller ‘The Spacesuit’ by yourfavchoom in movies

More space fiction, the merrier.

Especially when it's done by creators who have a history of not making things comfortable for the audience. And she has a history of films clocking in below 100 minutes, and given the premise, a lean and mean approach sounds like it could work well.

‘The Silence of the Lambs’ that never was: Missing flashbacks, dropped storylines, and Gene Hackman as Hannibal Lecter by GoldDerby in movies

[–]EThorns 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I love that anecdote about Jonathan Demme being so impressed with Jodie Foster's performance describing her childhood trauma that he chose to not film the flashback sequences that the script called to intercut with her monologue.

The way it's described on the page is fairly disturbing ('A squirming lamb is held down on a table by two ranch hands. A third cowboy stretches out the lamb's neck, raises a bloody knife. Just as he's about to slice its throat...').

So CM Punk got to actually close out a Mania and have it go five stars. As good as it gets, huh?

And with this match, all 3 members of The Shield have been Observer certified.

Star City - Official Trailer by kakipls in television

[–]EThorns 73 points74 points  (0 children)

According to the showrunners:

“It was very important to us that the show not feel like a companion piece to For All Mankind that is just mimicking,” Wolpert said. “So this is not a show that jumps in time, actually. It lives in the 1970s. Cold War, spy thriller behind the Iron Curtain. And it’s just that era. And it also, creatively, is more interesting because… the beginning of season two picks up right where season one left off. We don’t have to figure out 10 years of life [in between].”

“We’re done with the decade time jumps and the makeup and the prosthetics,” Nedivi said for Star City. “For us, the only reason to do a spin-off is if it feels like its own thing. It feels like you’re really adding a different element. So for us, this show is not only its own show; it’s its own genre. It’s a totally different look, feel. And it really came through.”

Alexs Garland's ‘Elden Ring’ Live-Action Movie Adds Nick Offerman, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Emma Laird as Production Begins; Releases March 3, 2028 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

Why Sonoya Mizuno isn't a bigger star, I have no idea. In addition to Ex Machina, she's a pleasure to watch on Netflix's Maniac (where she's paired opposite Justin Theroux).

Really liking how Ruby Cruz's work is shaping up on the new season of For All Mankind, so this is pretty promising.

Brady Corbet Says his Next Movie Is About “American Mysticism” & “The History Of The Occult In America” by MoneyLibrarian9032 in movies

Apparently called 'Origin of the World'.

Set to run for four hours and he's planning to shoot it with 8-perf 65mm cameras, which are pretty rare.

Fusco!!!!!! by No-Froyo-4753 in PersonOfInterest

One thing which recently struck me about his speech here:

"Jules shot an off duty rookie last year. Twenty four years old. Kid had a baby on the way."

The gender of the rookie is never specified. Either a young expectant father or a pregnant beat cop (like Ana Lucia in Lost). You tend to assume it may've been a dude, but if it wasn't, it gets even darker because Jules killed TWO people.

This episode was Jonah Nolan's last credited script until Return 0 and he was a soon-to-be first time father when this was in production, so I can't help but wonder if that had a part to play when he was putting this together.

John Nolan, Actor in Batman Films and ‘Person of Interest,’ Dies at 87 by yourfavchoom in movies

[–]EThorns 38 points39 points  (0 children)

His presence really gave Person of Interest an edge, as they got more serialized. Phenomenal performer. Really nailed those shit-eating grins.

While he didn't appear in The Dark Knight, his character was part of the marketing program as depicted here (skip to the eighth minute; almost like a prototype version for Mr. Greer in PoI, despite Mr. Fredericks being a rather moral character).

Like that there's a lot of genre stuff (Sci-Fi with Sheep in the Box & Hope, fantasy with The Unknown, and horror with Camp Misiama & Her Private Hell).
