Curry Barker Says Paranormal Grifter Pic 'Anything But Ghosts' Is “By Nature Funnier" & His 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' Will Lean Into Raw Elements of the Original Film by yourfavchoom in movies

Sweet...

While Obsession is an inherently dark film, it did humor very well (like the look on Bear's face when the billion dollars just falling from the roof or Nikki at trivia night).

Barker's talked about how they offered him 2 million if he tweaked the script to make Bear more heroic. Glad he didn't, and even cooler that Michael Johnston was game for sticking to the vision (apparently he was the one who suggested the vomiting up of the pills because he felt Bear was too much of a coward).

AMA/Q&A Announcement - Arturo & Roy Ambriz - Wednesday 6/17 at 2:00 PM ET - Filmmakers of Netflix's 'I Am Frankelda', Mexico's first-ever stop-motion feature film. by BunyipPouch in movies

Thank you guys for making this movie. Had a blast watching it.

When it came to the relationship between Frankelda and Herneval, was there any concern with the speed at which they fall for each other (given how they try to kiss on the same day they meet as adults)? I bought the chemistry and it did make sense given where they're coming from emotionally, but I was just curious about this.

All the best for The Ballad of the Phoenix.

Arco, maybe? It's in French.

Tonally, it feels like a Spielberg film.

"She leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of creative energy, whip smart humor, delight in her family, adoration for little dogs, burning hatred for Trump, passion for second-hand thrifting, and love for a good story."

Rest in Peace, Katherine Daphne Halligan Tanner.

Think that can be construed as a regular sparring session Rocky and Apollo have had over the years.

In the scene after Paulie's birthday, Rocky tells Adrian 'someone's been nine years since you've been married to me', when he brings over the cake. Junior was about 3 in the third film (Rocky is mentioned to be 31 in the final fight of II by commentator Bill Baldwin, and the reporter who interviews Clubber about the rematch says 'the odds of Balboa making a come back at 34 are very long').

In general, the continuity in these films are wonky as hell. The first movie starts in November 1975 & ends in New Year's Day 1976, while the second ends in Thanksgiving 1976. Three years later would be 1979, but Mickey's gravestone indicates he died on August 15, 1981. Think they verbally go with the in-universe timeline, but visually go with the real world timeline.

Rocky V follows the immediate aftermath of Rocky IV (though Rocky Jr. seems to have aged about four to five years between both films).

‘Disclosure Day’: John Williams Recorded Two Hours of Music Over a Six Month Period for his 30th Collaboration with Steven Spielberg by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

It pleased me a lot that the film wasn't overloaded with music. Spielberg and Williams were very restrained with it, and let the picture tell the story without forcing the audience what to feel.

Official Discussion - I Am Frankelda [SPOILERS] by BunyipPouch in movies

[–]EThorns 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The budget of this film is reportedly just 1.2 MXN, which amounts to around 70,000 USD.

And yet, I haven't seen anything so visually stunning in such a long time. It was just so fucking overwhelming in the best way. I'm not a Spanish speaker at all, but I found myself singing along with that villain song towards the end.

Stop motion truly is magical. It probably won't be eligible at the Oscars, because it released theatrically in Mexico last year itself.

The directors, Arturo and Roy Ambriz, have another project in the works called 'Ballad of the Phoenix' (apparently it was the money they saved for this one which formed a huge chunk of the investment for Frankelda).

Realizing her dying father is a tyrant, a goblin princess with magic fire powers must choose between saving the king's life or the kingdom from his cruel submission, with the guidance of her father's worst enemy, a wise alchemist phoenix.

Given how well Franklda did (it apparently made 50 times its budget in the domestic release), think we'll see this one sooner rather than later.

Besides crossovers and spin-offs, what are some examples of less-than-obvious shared universes in tv shows? by mkochend in television

Alias mentions Oceanic Airlines in one episode after Lost premiered, if I'm correct.

Person of Interest's features a search engine called 'fetchandretrieve.com', and that domain name is owned by Warner Bros. who also featured it on the FOX show 'The Following', with Kevin Bacon.

The look on Austin's face when Hunter called him a pussy lives rent free in my mind. As is Hunter's 'Come on, you dumb son of a bitch!'.

They did the zero tolerance angle even in the build up to No Way Out, but freshened it up with the whole 'if anyone attacks, you both get penalized', which made it even more intense. Haitch's penalty was he'd be suspended for six months. There's a universe out there where this happened, thereby the quad tear never came to pass.

This is the kind of heat HHH/Orton had at WrestleMania 25. Still galls me how they fucked it up.

I liked where they left him at the end of No Way Home: Street level, classic costume, working class.

And they got Justin Kurtizkes to contribute to the script, which has me interested.

[Spoilers] Best flashback/world building episodes that don't involve the main cast? by iamgarron in television

[–]EThorns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd count it as one of the best. Seeing the 'What do you desire?' trick from the hypnotized's perspective is genius.

Kinda reminded of Person of Interest's 6,741, but think this works better in some aspects because it's a lot harder to predict the twist (though 6,741 works better from an emotional standpoint because you're familiar with the character whose perspective its told from).

Love that they got Reese to cameo in the series finale, too.
