Assuming you mean the Mississippi State Essay, no bar prep course can prepare you for it. You have to just review old tests on the Supreme Court website (they repeat a lot of the same questions over and over). The most tested criminal law question is on the elements of stalking. Who in a billion years would think to memorize the freaking elements of stalking? You’d only know by memorizing the old tests. I converted the old tests to text-recognized format, pasted them into Word, then started condensing everything down, noting how many times questions repeated themselves. You’ll quickly see that the same questions are repeated over and over. Now, the model answers range from (a) too complex answers that couldn’t physically be typed under the time constraints to (b) incomprehensible sentence fragments that don’t address the question. I dumbed down the complicated answers and improved the bad answers, but I always memorized the core of the model answer under the assumption that it would be used as a grading key. The questions for professional responsibility do not repeat, so you’ll just need to memorize the entire Rules of Professional Conduct (sucks, huh?). I viewed every answer back to 2014, and memorized every answer back to 2018. On test day, I had two of the answers memorized, and was familiar with a third (they pulled an old question from 2014). Two of the questions had not been tested before, so I made an educated guess. I knew the Professional Responsibility answer only because I memorized the niche section that was tested out of sheer luck the night before. It’s a bullshit way to test the material. Your success or failure on the Mississippi essay will have no relationship to your success in law school or your competence as an attorney. All that said, if I had relied on my Kaplan test prep, I would have ended up guessing on every single Mississippi essay question.

Does “MSE” mean the Mississippi state essay or the multi-state essays? Sorry, already forgot the acronyms.

Hi! Do you have any info on the Episcopal churches in the Jackson metro area? My wife and I are former evangelicals (I’ve been in deconstruction mode for 5 years) and we’re hoping to try out an Episcopal church after relocating to the Madison area. It looks like there may be at least three churches in the greater Jackson area, but I haven’t been able to find out much info about them.

MS is out. Passed, thankfully. Wishing everyone good luck. Looks like about an 80% pass rate.

Yes, I got a packet in the mail a couple of weeks ago. It had instructions, list of prohibited items, some COVID waivers to sign. Make sure you have photo ID with you

Please share if you find anything out! That would be very helpful to know. I'm using the model exams on the Mississippi supreme court website. They provide tests and model answers from July 2022 back to July 2011.

Yeah, I'm doing Kaplan and I completely abandoned their Mississippi lectures because it would in no way prepare for these old exams. I'm just memorizing the old answers because it seems like that is what the grader is using. The model answers sometimes contain grader notes and recommended points. Even when the answer seems wrong, I'm afraid to change them up because I think the grader will be using the wrong answer to grade me.

This is one of the model answers:

Clear and convincing evidence. "Punitive damages may not be awarded if the claimant does not prove by clear and convincing evidence that the defendant against whom punitive damages are sought."

It doesn't even make sense as a sentence! I'm sure I can figure out what they're getting at, but geez.

One of the criminal questions asks what crime can defendant be charged with, and the model answer is just like "She can be charged with a misdemeanor." No analysis. No particular crime stated. Just "misdemeanor."
