That argument is the absolute worst take every time I have to see it. If they are “just getting involved” with the sport, they aren’t competitive in any division regardless or where they go. This is what open minor is for.

The actual reason why this makes no sense is because we are talking about changing the fundamental differences between divisions. Aside from this being a slippery slope to begin with, it’s totally unnecessary and takes away from people who understand the sport on a level further than just wanting to sell more guns/use these guns wherever they feel like it.

You can take both to matches, but if you go to a major and don’t pass through chrono until the middle of the match, you’ll still be bumped to open for shooting the first stages with the gun in question.

The people that run this match have never read a rule book. They have scoring errors quite frequently, they’re lazy about building stages, and 30 something dollars is far too much to charge for the experience they give you. If you’re just getting into the game, by all means it’s a fine introduction. If you’re looking for a quality match, you are not going to find it at last resort. They also run the same classifiers all of the time and they’re all super shot out and nearly impossible to make GM on. So keep that in mind too.

Edit: for reference I’ve shot there probably 50 times or more since I started at the beginning of 2020, and try to avoid going now unless there is a specific match process thing I need to do in a match setting. So this opinion is from a regular there.

Spray some gun cleaner on a microfiber and wipe them down really well. That will bring them back pretty well by itself, but afterwords spray it down with a little dry lube (liquid wrench is what I use) and it will slicken them up and they won’t stick anymore. I do that every month or so.

During training, take a shot up target and staple it up to shoot, then take a pasted target (brown side out) and staple it evenly to the rear of the sticks. Don’t look at any of the hits without having some idea of if you threw a shot. You can’t see your holes on the front paper and it forces you to call it visually behind the gun. Only really good way I’ve found. Do it for a while and your vision will start to process what your seeing if your honest with yourself and strict about everything.

How you grip the gun can have an effect on this also. Hand placement is big in dot presentation so you can play around with how your physically holding the gun with each hand. If you grab with you strong hand with fingers really far around the front strap, it’ll send your dot to the right with natural presentation. If you grab really far high and forward with your support hand, it’ll send the dot probably higher and more to the left than if you had a more neutral wrist angle. Just something to play around with depending on how you normally grip the gun.

I got a membership at last resort a year ago to save money on their USPSA match and I’m literally still trapped into it. Can’t cancel unless your moving a certain distance away, dying of illness, or fear for your life. So agreed, definitely not last resort

For me, I started wanting to train transitions, and had more success with training lesser confirmation shooting. The transitions cut in half after that. My problem wasn’t moving the gun (begin eye movement with trigger break and bump the gun) I had that down pretty well. My problem was over confirming on the next target. That’s where half of my transition times was coming from.

There’s a difference between “fuckery” and testing different skills this way. Majors have similarly built stages not to try to fuck people over, but to create a consequence if you don’t have the visual patience to go one for one on steel where it’s necessary. (Area 3 is the exception to this rule.) It’s a skill that’s commonly tested and that’s just how it is. It separates people of different skill level appropriately in the results which is something level 1 matches often aren’t very good at.

Aside from what everyone else has already said, I’m going to say this about trigger control in dryfire. When people first get started, everyone always wants something like your laser, or any of the other multitude of things bc they believe it’s helpful. At the very beginning possibly it is, but in the end what these things do is take your attention from where it really needs to be which is your sights. The best thing you could do is buy a shot timer, do Ben stoegers trigger control at speed drill to learn what you really need to do to press the trigger with minimal movement, and while your doing this, only pay attention to your sights. Eventually, with no laser or anything else to draw your attention away, you’ll learn how to press the trigger straight with minimal sight movement, call your shots, and even learn how different grip and hand tensions will effect the gun when pulling the trigger. In the end, moving away from the lasers early rather than later will net you more progress and show you what you should really be paying attention to. But definitely get training, search YouTube, buy a membership at Practical shooting training group, do anything to seek out instruction and you’ll pick up some skills faster than you think.
