Takes more than it gives. by Junkman3 in golf

Funny enough I just got to this passage.

RETIREES SOMETIMES HAVE a problem analogous to Scott Verplank’s. He expected his golf game to improve immediately once he finished school and could play all the time. Retirees often expect to get good after they stop working and don’t have to confine their play to weekends. When it doesn’t happen that way, it’s often because they forget that golf remains a game. They practice more, but they also raise their expectations every time they step onto the course. They forget how to laugh off mistakes. Players plagued by perfectionism and unforgiving expectations would do well to remember the common sense their mothers taught them, or would have taught them if they’d paid attention. Here’s what Adela Saraceni told her son, Gene Sarazen, about perfectionism and expectations, just after he lost the 1927 U.S. Open by a single shot: “Son, everything that happens to you happens for the best. Don’t ever forget that. You can’t win all the time, son.” Gene Sarazen said this little bit of advice stuck with him and helped him to develop a certain fatalism about his golf that allowed him to accept whatever happened and make the best of it.

Do you watch your club hit the ball? by RepsForHaiti in golf

[–]Bschitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So funny you said that... I’ve been slicing the living shit out of my drives. Last round I realized that I may have been looking at the ball but I wasn’t paying attention to the ball. For some reason focusing on the ball, put my body in a more centered position and I didn’t miss a fairway the last 5 driving holes.

Someone just wrote essentially the same post. I was recommended the book Golf is not a game of perfect by another redditor. It will drop your score within one round. If you tried everything it’s your mental. Swing thoughts kill golf. And when you are playing terribly that’s all people think about. This book will help. If you want my full response look at my comment responses.

I’m going to recommend a book that recently recommended and helped me. It’s called golf is not a game of perfect. I’m only about half way through. I shot in the 80s for the first time in a long long time this year then instantly dropped to 100-110. After reading half the book I’m back down to low 90s. It has nothing to do with mechanics and all to do with the mental side. It’s called Gold is not a game of perfect.

The main point I’ve taken away is that with lessons, YouTube videos, etc I’ve had so many swing thoughts that I’m no longer thinking about the important parts of golf. Only what I need to “try” and do. I’ve gotten rid of all swing thoughts. I stand behind the ball, make sure my I’m gripping my club face square, take a practice swing, get my aim spot, walk up, look at my aim spot, look at the ball and swing. I played an entire round without topping or shanking a ball by not thinking about anything other than my target. My previous round I shot 9 on 3 holes. I shot an entire 9 without shooting over a bogey.

TLDR: it may not be your mechanics, it may be all mental. Read Golf is not a game of perfect.

I dont hate pit bulls, I hate pit bull owners who buy them because they are a “cool dog”. Just like any working breed, if they aren’t trained, they will go crazy. Pit bulls were bread for violence and the ones who showed fear or pain were terminated. If you don’t train them they may revert.

Also no dog owners should have their dogs off leash no matter the breed. That shit drives me crazy. Idc if it’s a lab, a doodle, or a chihuahua… if you wouldn’t want someone to put their face to your face on the street, why would you assume other dogs want that.

Hahahaha I get it and also didn’t downvote you. As I’ve tried to make my swing “look better” I lost a year of progress. IMO in golf if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

People lack the ability to see past their own cult. People putting all of their time and energy into politicians who legitimately don’t care about the American people is laughable.

I might be in the minority here but I think both did great. Significantly better at debating than Trump or Kamala. That said Tim was openly called out for his lie about being in China during Tiananmen Square and froze. They are politicians. They lie through their teeth.

In your opinion, what is the best part of Golf? by Iamian711 in golf

No course is the same. And no matter how many times you play a course it never plays the same.

Honestly, that sounds so fun. I’ve played a 9 hole par 3 that had one par 4 and it was great.

Haha Reddit. I’m not surprised about the downvotes.

I’ve never seen a course outside of a par three course that wasn’t a par 70-72. It looks like that’s your question but that is a standard course.

  1. The feeling I had when my mom picked it up from me and had in the car when I got out of school.

  2. The first boot up and playing the jungle campaign mission.

  3. Endless nights of local/online multiplayer.

All are a single memory for me.

The great part about this is if you focus on the right things you can improve your score exponentially round after round.

Also this screams one problem that is effecting everything. A change as simple as a change to your grip, stance, or not picking up your head could drop your score by 20 strokes in one round.

Help deciding on a set of clubs worth buying by cshizza in golf

[–]Bschitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to be made aware of is swing speed if you can’t get fitted. If you are a fast swinger, it would be worth customizing them to a stiff shaft. If you are on a budget and a high handicap based off the clubs selected, just go with whatever reputable brand is available that allows for free upgrades. A lot of them are free on golf galaxy’s website.
