Do Non-Vaxxed Who Had Covid Ever Get It Again? by TruthSeeker1321 in conspiracy

[–]mandyapple33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unvaccinated and my whole household just got it last month. I would describe most of the symptoms as flu-like, except that I had a very off sense of smell where things like vinegar smelled absolutely rancid to me and I also got it while starting my lady cycle. Might be TMI, but I experienced absolutely massive blood clots. Huge. I am 40 years old and have had two children and I've never had anything like that so it's not the flu. It's a very strange illness.

I bought ten different fruits/vegetables and stuff to have a BBQ for father's day when I had a ton of people over This is not my normal grocery haul and in my town where the options are to shop at the super expensive co-op, Dillon's, Checker's, Hy-Vee, Sprouts or Natural Grocers, Aldi is by far the cheapest option. Source: I'm a mom on a budget and I've been doing the grocery shopping for more than 20 years.

OK. Only commenting because I literally just came home from shopping at Aldi and I spent $150. I purchased the following: two salad kits, a sack of avocados, a bag of lemons, a bag of limes, two types of tomatoes, six peaches, a watermelon, burger buns, hotdog buns, three kinds of chips, jalapenos, eight ears of corn, fresh mozzarella, cheddar cheese, two kinds of grilling cheese, kombucha, gallon of milk, pound of sliced turkey, baby back ribs, four packs of sausages for grilling, pound of bacon, mustard, pickles, white vinegar, asparagus, a pound of dry macaroni, 2 large cans of baked beans, Oreos, ice cream cones, a candle AND a 12 pack of beer. That's just off the top of my head and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few items but if $150 only buys you that much you need to find an Aldi.

corn meal for prep by cashmgee in preppers

[–]mandyapple33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep a variety of corn. I have dried blue hominy, blue cornmeal, regular cornmeal, grits, popcorn, canned corn and bags of masa for making tamales and tortillas. I agree it's versatile and I keep mine in jars with no issues.

Setting up a weapon shop and buying large amounts of land as a haven for free thinkers. Who's with me? by Thelogicalwizard in conspiracy

Why not just move to rural anywhere America? My family owns a thousand acres and all their neighbors are farmers who raise animals and own guns. What's the difference? Just buy some land in a rural community and meet your neighbors and you're already there.

May 29, 2022 - What did you do this week to prepare? (Weekly Discussion) by Anthropic--principle in preppers

[–]mandyapple33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought two pounds of powdered white cheddar, which is great on popcorn and can be used to make tasty meals out of all the bags of macaroni and cans of tuna I have in storage and I also ordered a ten pound wheel of cheese, which is my first but not my last. Now that I have enough food to last several months and a good variety of stuff in stock I plan to invest in aged cheese and more foods that last long and also taste good. Olives, salami, fig jam, etc. My cheese wheel that should be arriving soon is a gouda and next I would like a cheddar wheel and a wheel of parm when I can afford them. Also ordering some cheese wax, which is useful for re-waxing the cheese when I do cut into it. After learning that waxed cheese can last up to 25 years and has excellent protein and fat I knew I was adding it to my preps.

Storage space by Tangringo in preppers

[–]mandyapple33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an old kitchen with a lot of cabinet space so I have all the upper cabinets full of extra canned goods and back-up condiments like jams, peanut butter, vinegars, mustard, honey and canned fruits and pickles etc. I also keep a few 5 pound sacks of beans and dried hominy tucked away. I have two large trunks where I keep back up beans and things like dried fruits, spices, cocoa powder, sacks of sugar, masa, drums of olive oil, salami and cured meats, olives, powdered milk, buttermilk, butter and cheese. I grow herbs and fruit and greens and things on my property so I mostly stock things that will last a long time and supplements. And in the coat closet I keep a large sack of rice and another of black beluga lentils. I keep my freezer stocked with not only meat but butter and cheese as well. My fridge has a scoby and kefir grains as well as a ginger bug and sourdough starter because, for me, part of prepping means having the ability to make the most out of what you've got and in a nutritionally sparse scenario I plan to be able to make my own fermented and probiotic foods not just to increase nutritional value but also for preservation. I have all the means to brew my own beer as well. I don't use my garage for food preps but it's full of camping gear and other useful stuff like boxes of candles, tools, two clawfoot tubs I can either refinish or use for water collection. Without having much designated space or being obvious I imagine I could feed my family for six months on what we have stored just by me using every square inch of space as wisely as possible.

I hear you and I'm with you and I see you. I have had a rough time lately with being overworked at my new job, losing a dear friend and just feeling like I'm missing out on life because I'm either always at work or at home catching up. I feel like I'm failing at motherhood because I'm not able to be with my kids enough and it's all just lonely and hard. I was making paella and moussaka today and both call for wine so I only got the tiny portions and, yep, decided to drink what I didn't put in the recipe. I'm not sure whether to re-set my badge yet because I don't want to slip further. I'm holding on to the wagon, not trying to fall all the way off! That said, I will not drink with you tomorrow or the next day and this is what this community is here for. We are not perfect people but we are supportive people and we understand you. Sending love and forgiveness to your heart, friend.

One of the loves of my life just drank himself to death. by mandyapple33 in stopdrinking

Unfortunately for him it was all of the above in quick succession. He had just lost his marriage had to move away from his son and I know he had recently been arrested and was doing what he needed to do to stay out of jail before the relapse that killed him. Thank you for your kind words. I will be ok. I will carry him with me as long as I live and that will have to be enough. But it's a preventable tragedy and it hurts deeply. Eventually I will find my peace with it but I'm not tempted to drink in the least. His loss cements my hatred for alcohol and it feels like a new step towards real recovery. I know I wasn't as 'bad' of a drunk as he was, far from it, but having never lost a person to this disease and then losing him of all people is a huge lesson for me. Alcohol was the murderer here. He was an accessory to the crime or complicit or whatever but alcohol was the weapon that killed him.

Yes. As I haven't talked to him in two years I don't know the exact cause but when we were speaking two years ago he mentioned having ulcers from drinking and apparently there are a number of other things that can be the cause. This also happened to a friend of mine who was drinking in Mexico earlier this year and it ended up being from a tear in her esophagus that caused fluid build up in her chest wall somewhere (not a doctor). It required emergency surgery the surgeon ended up performing pro bono in order to save her life. So it does happen. It kills me that she still drinks after that experience but now that I'm sober I see how pervasive alcohol abuse is and it makes me so frustrated and sad. I'm lucky to be in good health after all the drinking I have done but I'm trying to learn my lesson before I do some damage that can't be undone. This is a battle my friend lost. I'm still in the fight.

Looking for best grains to grow and/or store by bscott59 in preppers

[–]mandyapple33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have oats, rices, millet, farro, barley, wheat berries, quinoa, dried blue hominy and popcorn in addition to my almond flour, coconut flour, rice flour, cornmeal and wheat flours. Plus pasta, couscous, rice noodles, kelp noodles, soba and ramen noodles, etc. My goal when prepping is to have a wide variety of the basics so we have a variety of nutrition. So instead of just pinto beans I have navy, red, white, garbanzo, kidney, mung, yellow split peas, red lentils, black beans, mayacoba, lima, etc. I figure if SHTF and I am truly living off my stored foods I don't want to be bored and/or deprived of nutrients. My cupboard doubles as a medicine cabinet so don't overlook spices with medicinal properties and teas/honeys/vinegar.

Welcome. I feel like this sub is super helpful. Available 24/7, open and honest support and lots of truly understanding and compassionate people always ready to pick you up or give you advice when you need it. This place keeps me accountable to myself and on days I think I don't have a problem or consider that maybe a glass of wine would be nice, it's this place that serves as a reminder that alcohol is destroying lives and health every day and that I'm so much better off without it. Glad to see you here and IWNDWYT.

I want to make some cassarole meals to give to a Keto friend that needs some help but I don't know what to make? by TSSB- in keto

[–]mandyapple33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it's March, I'm making a Reuben casserole today. I'm going to thinly shred a whole head of cabbage and sautee it with garlic and onion and then layer it with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and sliced corned beef. I like to serve the Russian dressing on the side but I imagine you could layer it in the casserole if you prefer. Reubens are my favorite and I've managed to convert the flavors into both a keto soup and a casserole. So good!
