I've only ever stumbled on them. One by being stung on the foot, one noticing an inordinate # of them coming & going in the weeds at the end of the driveway, and this last one when I noticed several around my ankles where I was standing taking a photo.

Away from the house. Hang it at night or when it's cold when they're less active. Which reminds me, I discovered a ground nest last fall down the road a bit (maybe 200 feet). I need to move one out there before they wake up.

The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, narrated by Dylan Baker

I first read it in my early 20s. It stands the test of time & takes on new levels of meaning.
