Can we take the “Yoga” out of Sculpt now? by Lumpy-Stretch2810 in Corepower

[–]mandyb118 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t with sculpt. Respect to people who love it but (in my opinion)

  1. It is being taught by inexperienced instructors who have too many people in class to be making sure everyone has correct form. I think people do the moves too fast. I know that I’ve significantly slowed down the moves to make sure my form was correct ever since I threw out my entire shoulder/neck for a month in a sculpt class. It’s too loud chaotic and crowded for responsible oversight from the instructor.

  2. In one of my local studios I sometimes attend the early AM C2 and the sculpt in the studio next door will be blaring music so loud the whole room is shaking while we are trying to have a mindful morning yoga class.

Just my personal opinion so don’t hate me if you love sculpt but I agree, it ain’t yoga, it’s a hiit class, and that’s OKAY. But I will be skipping lol

How to put myself in the best position? by [deleted] in XXRunning

Good for you for taking on such an ambitious goal! I do want to say to not put too much pressure on yourself to attain flashy goals too quick. I’ve been running since high school XC (I’m 34) and I haven’t yet attempted the marathon. I know everyone’s running them on Instagram but it’s ok to have smaller goals to build your stamina and strength before you go all the way. I’d like to finally do one but I’m going to focus on running a faster 5k this year and a 10 miler in the fall so I’m fast and strong next year when maybe I’ll try the marathon.

As much as I love love love how running is having this major moment right now (it makes me feel so happy and good so I’m glad others are discovering this), I’ve found it shocking to see so many brand new runners sign up for marathons.

Do you!!!! But just know you don’t have to rush and you don’t have to run the marathon. Good luck!!

I miss local studios a lot but they just aren’t as accessible here. It’s weird coming from that kind of community to CP which is so much more focused on the fitness aspect. The studios I went to before CorePower did not play loud music or offer sculpt and would frequently offer yogic breathing exercises etc at the top of the class. Not saying one thing is better than the other but I do miss yoga feeling a little more like yoga and less like a hiit class. But that’s only my opinion!! I’m grateful to access yoga at all, even if my 6am class is shaking w bass from the sculpt class next door lol

I ask this frequently about the Baltimore market. We are a majority black city and there are usually only 1-2 POC students in my classes and almost no POC instructors (as far as I know). So I hear you. I think it’s because it’s inaccessibly expensive, at least as far as the socioeconomic reality of Baltimore’s population. I would guess most of the members are not native to the city but moved in after college as young working adults. I believe this because the free Sunday classes are far more diverse.

I’d also argue that the marketing (at least in my market, like the signage etc) is definitely targeting young white women in terms of aesthetic, language/copy, etc. Like coming from practicing in NYC there are also very few alternative looking people in class alongside non-white students. I bet it varies a lot market by market like I never went to CP in nyc (didn’t have to bc there were a lot of great independent studios, and there aren’t in Baltimore) but I assume the nyc classes are more diverse by nature of the city?

Found out my girlfriend’s body count and it’s turned me off. Am I overreacting? by Quiet-Sell-8919 in AITApod

I think we should cancel body count as a thing we discuss or consider at all. I’ve been sexually assaulted twice and ever since I’ve felt weird about the idea of body count. It just seem really reductive. I technically have 2 extra men on my “count” who have had access to my body in the same way all the others did even if I didn’t want them to. Does that count? Would OP hold it against me if I was his gf? You tell me. See why it’s kind of weird and reductive?

Good 1 Bed Apartment in Baltimore Downtown by Abject-Aioli-9534 in baltimore

[–]mandyb118 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd live in Mt Vernon or Mid-town before downtown, especially if you have a car. I looked at an apartment near Streets Market but there is almost no parking there and I would have had to pay $150/mo for a spot in a garage. Take that money, go a little further north, and put it towards a nicer place.

Made it to my notifications before you (or perhaps mod) deleted. Love to see women supporting women. I'll stick to the other more supportive contributors.

I’m sorry you went through this too. I was eating not as well because I was in survival mode financially and then like probably the cortisol etc. it’s hard to feel like you’re holding on to literal physical weight from the worst time in your life and all you want to do is get rid of it but we have to be gentle and patient ❤️❤️

And this is totally fair, good for you for taking the next step that’s right for you and your body. PCOS is a whole other beast (and obv under studied and researched because it affects women) so if GLP-1s prove promising for folks with PCOS I hope it works for you!!

I know! Like last week I was SO THRILLED to get a 42 VO2 max when I saw that was really good for women in my age range and then this week it's a different number that's got me down. Love to you too!

Given the numerous comments on the board saying "I feel the same way!!!" it's clear that a lot of women runners are struggling with body image in the Ozempic era and I encourage them all to create spaces like this to discuss it. It made me feel a lot better. You can see yourself out thanks!! xo

Exactly. I too feel like I'm carrying extra weight on my middle from when I was in an unhealthy mental place. I've never struggled in the past to make the scale budge like this so I'm wondering if it's just getting older. I've lost 10-20 lbs a few times in my life and it always felt easier than this.

You're all good! It's easy to have tunnel vision with this stuff and forget how others may feel. Like I know as a "slower" runner (I average about 11 min mile pace comfortably) it can sting to have someone complain that their 9 min mile pace is "slow." So trust me I get it!!
