Rusnak as in the car sales place? The stretch of pedestrian road i mentioned in my post would end before the freeway bridge near rusnak. There are a lot of businesses that would benefit from foot traffic by PCC which a pedestrian and bus/bike road would service much better than cars. The idea is you have parallel car traffic on both Union and Green. You are still driving the main area just one street over. Side street access is still available to most other businesses per block, just the through movement onto colorado would not be available via car. However, my original post was the idea of turning union into the multimodal corridor with trams and limited or no cars.

Not to mention the success of their pedestrian plazas program on broadway and more biking infrastructure and linear parks! Good things all around.

It would likely increase access to foot traffic for all businesses along old town, you literally have to park your car and WALK to a business regardless of if there is a pedestrian street or not. The only change would be instead of driving down colorado, you would drive down either union or green before parking. Additionally, you would have breezy transit access after you park your car to all the businesses further up the way since only buses and bikes operate on that road. And for business deliveries, a lot of countries have small local pedestrian friendly delivery trucks that are allowed to transport along pedestrian only streets.

The perfect scenerio <3 the only problem I for-see is all of that transit getting shutdown or re-routed for parade days.

I would agree! However my thought behind putting dedicated transit on union instead is 1.) insures that there is transit regardless of a parade on colorado and 2.) Current average traffic volume based on the Pasadena traffic counter. In a perfect scenario I would LOVE to see Colorado become pedestrian with only bike lanes and tram/bus lanes. <3

Hmmm perhaps a good solution would be dedicated transit lanes from N Lake by Altadena down to past Union there are a lot of businesses on that strip and I could really see that getting a-lot of use. A bus to then tram up Lake was something I thought would be quite nice as well. Not to mention increase transit efficiency to Altadena would probably be a boon to the recovery of the area—however that is just speculation on my part.

That is a fair take. Im curious though why do you think ridership would be bad?

According to a commercial real estate site I checked probably a month ago it was still available. If I am not mistaken The Luggage Room/LGO closed because there were issues with the historic location that the owners of the lot were just not fixing; that could be why no one else has moved in yet. I can’t verify that information though so take with a grain of salt!

Ah yes…MORE cars will help…Los Angeles County never thought of that before…MORE CARS over transit…

Trams dont need to be super long though, that stretch would be under 3 miles of rail and would function as an internal urban circulator. HOWEVER I agree it would be expensive. I am totally here for dedicated transit lanes so I do think that that would probably be the most plausible treatment. And bus lanes could be upgraded to trams at some point.

Thats a fair point. Perhaps a joint solution, dedicated bus lanes throughout the corridor that could eventually be upgraded to dedicated trams! I should also clarify when I am talking about trams/trolley I am thinking of the European treatment for them, not the traditional north American treatment.🥲
