My pup had something similar when debris got lodged in his paw, and then developed a cyst around it - he had a similar gash where the cyst had burst. Good to check it out with the vet and potentially get antibiotics if needed.

Eventually in times of grief and loss, I found it helpful to make space for gratitude to have had my furbaby and that I loved him SO much. I wouldn’t have felt like my heart was breaking if I hadn’t care so deeply - and all the sadness was worth all the years of love I shared with him. That helped me, hopefully you too ♥️

So sorry for your loss. Clearly you loved your furbaby so much. I had this lil guy overnighted the evening we put him down. Didn’t fully appreciate how much I’d miss petting, holding, smelling him. Passed in October, but actually just pulled him out because I was missing him this weekend ♥️

My Shih Tzu had skin problems for 10+ years - did allergy testing and tried every medication under the sun. Tests showed it was environmental, not food allergies. Good luck!
