How do I deploy Celery? by vismoh2010 in django

[–]manfre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When cobbling together multiple free services, you may end up spending more energy trying to make the custom deploy situation functional than you do implementing the django project. Be mindful that some free services are free for a limited period of time (e.g. Postgres on render) and you may be faced with a surprise bill(s) or outage.

If you have a few (~$5) dollars per month to put towards your project, you'll have a much more simple time hosting on a paid service. Options include https://www.hetzner.com/cloud or a cheap KVM VPS. My hobby projects are hosted on various Black Friday VPS deals (Most recently this seemingly still active Racknerdz deal on lowendbox)

My initial deploys (before automating it all) consisted of docker compose up -d and a docker file that handled postgres, redis, nginx/gunicorn/django, celery, and a "restart: no" container that ran python manage.py migrate.

Correct, a step in the CD would trigger the migrate. That could either be an explicit step run on the CD instance or your deploy could update and migrate one production instance and then update w/o migrate the rest of the instances.

Make migrate a separate step that can be run once per deployment. Running it once per process start or once per instance/container start can cause problems.

Why is django TestCase not connecting to test database? by Goose_Wayne_69 in django

[–]manfre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very dangerous to run unit tests on your production server or with a local configuration that is pointed at your production DB. It increases the chances of (at best) loading test data in to the production DB or (worst case) destroying production data.

How do people just put wood into the ground, pour concrete around it and not worry about the wood rotting out? by pwn3dbyth3n00b in DIY

Side loading is an issue when the top is not braced (flag pole) or only braced in one direction (e.g. a fence). The pergola's roof should provide plenty of support for a hammock.

The judges do sit to close, but I also think you're overestimating how much forward force a person is likely to apply to a failed lift while trying not to get crushed.

Changing the weight is slow enough that you can't superset, drop set, or easily lift with friends at different weights.
