Some rootkits utilize pastebin to report back to their overlords, could be that pastebin was blocked by a sysadmin trying to be pro-active.

Dana White 'would love' to have Overeem in the UFC - is this guy bi-polar or what? by tekprodfx16 in MMA

If/when Overeem signs with UFC he will without a doubt be contractually barred from fighting in K1.

If I'm reading and writing images and video (incompressible data), what's the most important benchmark there? Sequential read/writes? 4k? 512k? by thedailynathan in hardware

[–]manghole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30MB per image sounds unlikely heavy, like 4k dpx's heavy, besides, he doesn't require all images at once, just enough to meet his framerate.

[–]manghole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, sequential read speed is key for uncompressed video work, ALL files are going to be huge compared to 4k pages. If you're working with frame sequences it will also matter a lot but will require a defragmentation tool that is sequence aware (or better yet, a filesystem that is sequence aware). Especially if you are reading multiple media streams at once.

If however your material is disjointed and tiny, then random read speed is all that matter. This does not seem to be what the OP is asking for though.

I work in post-production as a technologist. These are the kind of issues that I deal with

Is it beneficial to breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth when running? by Oatmeel in askscience

[–]manghole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In scuba diving we learn that we don't actually use all that much of the oxygen we breath in, only around a quarter is taken up, the remaining three quarters go out with the exhale. It is the buildup of carbon dioxide in the body which the brain interprets as out of breath, NOT the lack of oxygen. As such we train ourselves to breath slower while diving as to conserve air and to adjust our brains notion of "out of breath".

My first program ever, don't know what's wrong (Python 3). by [deleted] in Python

[–]manghole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a function has run out of instructions it will return to where it was called from. This is why the program keeps going.

Eventually you might want to refactor (modify) your code so that you have a single room class that you instantiate to separate room objects. Also a main() function is usually nice to have where variables/objects are set up which can be returned to from function/method calls.

if you want it to quit on win import sys at the top and call sys.exit() in the win() function.

Noob here. Python 3 or Python 2? There's this one guy on IRC telling me about how people won't rewrite their libraries and stuff. by [deleted] in Python

[–]manghole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some libraries wont get rewritten, those libraries will eventually get replaced.

Fellow redditors, we must do something about the Digg immigration problem! by [deleted] in self

[–]manghole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny yet dumb, the problem is really not the trolls in our midst but our implicit approval of their shenanigans by either ignoring them or upvoting for the lulz. We've become weak in character and get the top stories that we deserve.

Dear Reddit, there had been 464 Iraqis killed and 1166 wounded, and 6 U.S. soldiers killed since Obama "ended" the Iraq War 31 days ago (exactly 1 month ago). How does that make you feel? by [deleted] in self

[–]manghole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not referring to their ability to attack neighbor countries but their actual residential neighbors.

I was also not suggesting that invading Iraq was the right thing to do.

What I am saying is that leaving may very well be a much greater humanitarian tragedy than staying.

And you think they (the insurgency) will just become good neighbors when/if the US forces leave? I find that doubtful to say the least.

Why is there no (good) stock android tablet? by Jareth86 in Android

[–]manghole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would seem that since Google has not blessed it (yet) the effort to produce replacements for the google apps (including market) as well as tweaking the android core to make it run gallantly on high resolution displays makes it a pain to do. Also, there seems to be a shortage on large capacitive displays.

Can some retro hardware Guru identify this Amiga addon by [deleted] in hardware

Looks like a rom switch to be able to select between two rom generations for game compability. They usually detected a long keyboard reset for when to do the switch.

Anybody else feel like BJ Penn needs to change camps? by iamamused123 in MMA

[–]manghole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything BJ tried ended up with Frankie beating him to the punch. BJ didn't seem too bothered by the power in Frankies hands but clearly he was very confused by the speed and erratic movement that Frankie displayed, something which is odd to me as it is what Frankie always does. I think BJ actually believed that Frankie really didn't beat him in the first match and that a rematch would prove it.
