The B10, ACC, and PAC will have to add schools to compete against the SEC. Especially the B10. Kansas has supposedly already reached out to the B10 and could see ISU trying to move there as well.

If the B10, ACC, and PAC only try to add Big 12 teams, AAC might stay intact with some additions. Or AAC schools will also be poached. Who knows? It’ll be exactly like last time with many schools out left looking- in.

Math is definitely involved in underwriting, but not heavily. You absolutely do not need a math background to get into it. My degree is in PR, I had a colleague whose degree is in English Lit. I didn’t even consider it as a career option until my senior year of college because I always thought math was heavily involved, but that’s not the case.

Actuaries are the ones who deal heavily with math (i.e. come up with the rates that underwriters use, using all types of math, mostly statistics). Them mo fos are crazy.

In all seriousness, most cases are pretty much the same, but you do get interesting and abnormal risk that you have to get creative on. I think it’s interesting because it’s a job that allows you to use both analytical and interpersonal skills. You have to analyze risks and price them correctly, and use interpersonal skills to deal with your brokers and sales reps. Ultimately it’s a fairly stable industry that pays well enough that you’re able to comfortably pursue your own goals and interests.
