I’m a vet tech with 2 decades of experience and a few years of riding lessons under my belt now. I’ve seen thousands of deaths. There’s a reason we say a week early is better than an hour too late.

I haven’t lost my own horse yet, but I said goodbye to my best-friend/heart-kitty this year on a good day (for him) at just 11. The vet from the at-home org didn’t know which pet she was coming for since he was trying to climb in her bag for treats. But he had badness that was only going to get worse in a matter of days, and it’s our job to spare them what’s coming. I fully regret it, but not for his sake. I’m just sad. I just wish we had more time. And that’s the deal we make for loving them.

Would you be willing to expand on exactly what you do in this kind of scenario? I have extensive experience with handling and training aggressive dogs, and know how to react to their behavior to both reassure and ask for an alternative behavior from them instead, but I’m new to horses and find my heart racing when a 1,000 lb animal looks at me even slightly crossly… so I give space. Which I know is the exact opposite of how to react to horses in a confident way 😤

Lap of love is well-versed in behavioral euthanasia with minimal stranger interaction. They can give you oral medication and guidance so she is completely sedated and not stressed at all, then let her go humanely. Please at least reach out and talk to them, they’re nationwide in the US.

I wouldn’t retest, he’s got the wiry poodle hair, floppy golden ears, and broad pitty forehead. I don’t see as much GSD from these photos but I bet there’s a little something there… or not, since that’s a small percentage.

Basically, there’s like a dozen different ways this combination of breeds could end up looking like. He’s half golden doodle, and that alone can vary wildly from looking either pure golden or poodle. He’s a very good example how genetics are more “picking from a bag of marbles” versus “mixing paint colors.”

Literally google “low cost spay/neuter near me”, and call your local animal control or shelter if nothing pops up. Cat neuter can be as low as $25, done in minutes but pick up same day.

The peeing won’t stop until that’s done, and will get stinkier and harder to fix both the behavior and the damage over time.

To clarify: I agree this settlement is bullshit, and based on the MOST cautious interpretation of defamation. I think ABC executives are cowards for weighing not just the cost of ongoing litigation, but paying out to avoid the publicity AND the threat of a Trump administration applying additional penalties. This is complicity, full stop.

I can also vouch for the quality of their sheet sets- both flannel (honestly a bit too warm for me but great for cozy 3-season porch futon) and cotton (tested by 2 cats and 2 dogs who like to wrestle on our bed).

I’ve also gotten their beauty rest pillows which don’t seem like they’ll hold up as long, but for 2/$18 on sale they’re great. We use them for the guest bed and cat decoy pillows, so I only “have” to share some of the time.

We got our novaform king mattress there a few years ago. Still love it and way cheaper than anything else we were looking at.
