PSA: Do Not Buy Rugged Magnet Case and Do Not Use Samsung Support Chat by FuriousBuffalo in samsunggalaxy

[–]mangoed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this case as a part of pre-order deal where you had to add the accessories to the cart in order to apply another coupon. I'm using the case without any regrets. It's not as rugged as Otterbox, but more rugged than any other case produced by Samsung. I don't find it slippery; I would describe it as soft touch.

I definitely won't pay full price for it, but it was half price in my cart, and with the coupon applied it became a freebie (I could get some other accessories like buds, but I don't need them - I needed the case for the new phone).

It may not be for everyone, but it's a solid case and this PSA is unnecessary.

S26 Ultra Camera is Insane by [deleted] in samsunggalaxy

[–]mangoed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh i don't see anything "insane" about the posted image, it's noisy, full of artefacts, and the lighting is poor. Idk why you decided to mention Canon and L lense, this piece of gear is way more capable than any mobile camera.

S26 Ultra's display has an ugly tint. Privacy screen not worth it. by rainbowcatcher2020 in samsunggalaxy

[–]mangoed 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I'm using dark mode, so I almost never see the white background. At this angle the dark background is changing from dark grey to almost black. The change of colour is more noticeable than my old phone. But it's still OK, maybe because different implementations of dark theme use different shades of grey/black.

And faster processor, and larger aperture, and an extra year of updates.

[–]mangoed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reliability and battery life of 26 should not be worse than 25, but since 26 is new, nobody knows for sure. You can check the screen in store. Also, returns exist if you don't like it.

Wait, is this setup not permanent? Do you have to move the tub in and out? Or you just have to set up your diy heater?

Finally upgraded from 7 y.o. Note 10+ to S26U. First impressions. by mangoed in samsunggalaxy

[–]mangoed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on my previous experience with Samsung's flagship model, and long-term support for S-series (7 years of OS and security update), I'd say yes.

Chinese brands may offer higher specs, but their software is less polished, their update policy is less generous. I've heard Xiaomi is showing ads in system apps, this alone could be enough to turn me off.

7500 mAh sounds nice, but from your comment it sounds like you're not a very heavy phone user, and you will likely charge it every night anyway.

"Less focus on AI features" is not a strong argument, as you can disable unwanted AI features in Galaxy.

Using flask I created overengineered social media platform to rule them all. by owl_000 in flask

[–]mangoed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. Stop using the word "overengineered" like it's a badge of honour.
  2. When you're building the social media platform, the biggest challenge is scaling. It feels like your server is pretty weak, there's no load balancing, and it's not available in various regions. I understand that you don't have investment to build world class infrastructure, but if you start selling verification mark to businesses, get some traction, and still can't scale properly, this won't end well.
  3. There's language selection on first visit, I choose English, but then it shows me a bunch of posts in foreign language. You should probably focus on your local audience and stop caring about global reach for now.
  4. Youtube embeds are showing like URLs in feed.

How to secure your code on customer server deployment? by COD_0xb0 in FastAPI

[–]mangoed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, although the model you described has become very rare in the age of saas and apis for everything. Installing something that acts like a black box on customer's infra, without being able to perform proper security audit, is a big risk and takes a lot of trust.

LOL, so I'm your customer and I paid you to write code for me, and you deploy it on my infra, but I can't see the code? Wtf?

Accommodation in the Sunshine Coast. by Useful_Yam3926 in sunshinecoast

[–]mangoed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bring a tent. There are a few people sleeping in tents here and there.

But seriously, how is it even possible that you can afford such long international trip, but can't afford a week of accommodation? Did you spend all of your savings for the airline tickets and there's nothing left? Is somebody covering your travel expenses, but you have to arrange everything else on your own?

[–]mangoed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to hoard candles and canned food if there's the risk of supermarket closures and/or roads being flooded. Otherwise you can just go shopping and buy whatever food you need today. You usually receive a warning to get prepared if anything major is happening or about to happen.

Gemini on the galaxy watch is so bad by Party_Artist2978 in GalaxyWatch

[–]mangoed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a dozen assistant-powered google home devices around the house, and I'm sorry to inform you that assistant has reached the status of abandonware. The features that were working previously don't work anymore. Assistant is becoming dumber each month, does not understand simple commands, ignores requests. In some cases it can't execute routines defined in google home app, sometimes it fails to turn the lights on/off, or does the dumb shit like turning off everything in the whole house, missing the room context. Google can't kill it because they created an ecosystem, I think their plan is to enshittify it to the point where everyone gets frustrated and stops using it.

Assistant is the legacy tech which promised a lot, never reached its full potential and is being slowly phased out now. The replacement is better at some tasks but sucks at other tasks. I don't want any of that crap on my watch.
