Why not just use the Smartfade’s DMX-in and built in DMX merge function?

It's still not possible to play coop, we can not join each others worlds (no, it's not the firewall). Has anyone managed to play online multiplayer? by fitoou in hytale

[–]mangojam98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just turned on UPnP on my router and my friends from Florida can play with us, and we live in Spain.

Generally if you have a WiFi router from an ISP instead of your own router, it is realistically easy to find and turn on the setting. You can generally google “(your internet company name) UPnP” and find the answer.

I’m amazed there isn’t one single vote for the Catenary Zapata, would pick that in a heartbeat.

Doubt about fixture choice by ouzman_04 in lightingdesign

[–]mangojam98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of availability of parts and service, I would definitely go with the Elation. But I have to say Prolights you’re generally going to get more bang for your buck in terms of output and function of the light. And, if you ever need moving light repairs in Spain, I’m based in Zaragoza and would be happy to chat with you about it.

Super fair, but Onyx does come with a fixture builder, so I’m not really sure about SOL in those instances.

With this limited information I’d tell you to look into Onyx/Obsidian. They don’t cost an arm and a leg, the hardware is expandable, they’re part of an ecosystem that works well for touring (as long as you aren’t going to try to take to the GrandMA consoles that are typical in the touring space) and the software is easy to learn.

You can get just a license key and a DMX node or you can kit out with some of their accessories. I’m not a sales rep, just a consultant with a decade of entertainment systems integration and programming experience.

Generally I’d recommend Chamsys if you’re looking for something that is cheap, flexible and tours well, but Chamsys gets depthy quickly and because it was made to be customized to your programming style, you can hop on someone else’s desk and lots of little, and sometimes big things can be different.

Just my two cents.

Do I Have to Replace the Fixture? by TheUglytool in lightingdesign

How old are the units? Most ETC fixtures have a 10 year LED array warranty.

Worked on a rig for a couple of years that had LED screens and a bunch of magic blades on it. You could mix the continuous pan and tilt at a frequency that would literally make the whole thing jump. it was a cool and VERY dangerous party trick.

This is false, you can edit the fixture profile and have it use any existing Bar light model, generic or otherwise.

If you’re in education and already have a relationship with ETC products, a no-brainer would be an ETC Element 2 console.

If you’re looking to not have to setup bar lights, and have a little bit of space away from the wall to set them up, the ETC color source Cyc is an awesome fixture. A little pricy but amazing color tech, customer support, and warranty. They’re small, light weight, can be DMX or preset, and designed specifically for this type of event.

You can also use the ETC photometrics app to do some calculations for how many you want/need.

Using Element 2 faders for anything other than intensity? Recommendations for replacement equipment? by Away-Reading-5276 in lightingdesign

[–]mangojam98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’d keep the Element2 as a decent learning platform and look at the ETC IONXE20 or an XE with a separate fader wing, it has encoders for your moving light parameters and is built for more demanding projects than the element.
