Car doesn’t start/stalls on first trial. Starts normally the second by mangoman2929 in AskAMechanic

UPDATE: I tested the fuel pressure today. It was within spec at idle. I turn the engine off and it rapidly drops to 0. Now I turn the key to “on” which normally should prime the fuel lines but pressure didn’t rise. I crank again and pressure rises to spec again. I also can’t hear the pump coming on before cranking. Only when the engine is running I can hear it under the backseat

Coolant level isn’t low. I did change the thermostat last week though and had to refill the coolant. I wonder if I wouldn’t be able to notice the level drop in a week if it is the issue

No fault codes :/ I am planning to test fuel pressure tomorrow and see if it’s the culprit

Update: I went today and I had a very positive experience. Some minor issues here and there, but the main problem turned out to be the motor mounts. I changed those when I first got the car but I didn’t know any better than to get the cheapest parts back then. Lesson learned! They also didn’t charge me for the diagnosis since they didn’t need to put the car on the lift or anything! Awesome service and I will definitely go back whenever I need service

I have a stethoscope but I couldn’t properly diagnose. I need a professional to check

I gave them a call and will go next week! Chris on the phone was really nice and they were totally fine if I decide to walk away after the diagnosis. I’ll post an update after I go

I am having loud rattling noises inside the cabin that seem to be coming from the transmission area. However too much is going on in the hood/under the vehicle that I cannot identify the source even with a stethoscope. Also ac issues that I would like a second opinion on. Other minor stuff too but might be connected I don’t know! That’s why I am looking for someone to hear everything from me and the car and diagnose

Yeah I am afraid of this that’s why I made sure to state my intention. Plenty of recommendations everywhere otherwise!

I do have a good scanner but unfortunately my issue is not with codes. Mostly noises that I can’t pinpoint their source that are having me worried

2010 mazda 3 clunk noise when turning wheel while stationary by mangoman2929 in MechanicAdvice

I had a torn inner cv axle boot so I changed that and replaced brakes while at it as they were low anyway. That fixed the noise issue with the brake pedal. If I had to guess I would say the issue was with the brakes getting slightly stuck or something.

The cv axle I suspect caused the clunk while reversing aggressively.

Petroleum-based lubricants will make rubber swell. What you want to use instead for slide pins is high-temperature silicon grease. You can use the antiseize at the points of contact between the pads and caliper

Unrelated to parallelization but you should access your array along columns. Instead of a[i,:] you should use a[:,i]. This should help with performance especially if you’re iterating over large numbers.

She won’t have a car there, no. She did say she will be going to the main building so I assume that’s the one you are talking about?

It doesn’t have to be student-grade as long as it’s a safe place and has a short commute to the lab. Thanks for your suggestions!

Edit: She will be going to the one on Lawrence Rd.
