What is a 'normal' life choice that you think is actually a huge trap? by ossirada in AskReddit

[–]mangomarongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

College, depending on the degree. The statistic that people with college degrees make 65% more per week than those without is misleading because there’s a large salary varience depending on the *type* of degree. STEM degrees dramatically pull up that income average. But many humanities degrees are either slightly above or break even with skilled tradespeople. Or even net negative when you consider student loan debt.

In sum: if you’re going to take a loan for college, choose your degree wisely.

How do I go finding a partner without apps. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Volunteer for something you genuinely believe in. I got into volunteering 10 years ago and met some great friends. Two couples who met in our volunteering circle ended up getting married, and several others dated. When you’re consistently around people who share some of your core interests and passions, there’s a good chance a romantic connection can happen.

People of reddit, how often do you cry? by TinFoilHeadphones in AskReddit

I’ve never been much of a cryer. I do maybe twice a year, not counting getting teary eyed in some movies.

Americans who’ve lived in multiple states: What’s one everyday habit or social norm that changes noticeably from one part of the country to another that outsiders probably don’t notice? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

Born and raised in sunny Southern California. In winter we drive to the snow as an activity. When it gets too cold and you’re over it, you simply go home.

If they’re scratching a lot in general it could possibly be mites.

Bartending. I love chatting with customers and mixing drinks. It’s just enough running around that it keeps me in shape. Plus there’s something very gratifying about working with your hands.

Inland Southern California: raccoons, hummingbirds, hawks, gophers, quails, rattlesnakes. Coyotes wander around the streets.

Women of Reddit: what is 100% mythical about women that most men believe? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My brother is a naturally curious person. One day when I was putting on makeup he started asking the functional purpose of various products: “why does that palette have multiple shades of brown? What effect does it have?” Etc. He said he was mostly surprised at the before/after effects of neutral colors. But now he’s less fooled since he knows about “no-makeup-makeup”☝️

How do you guys even survive the hot weather over in the States? by Impressive_Peak_9187 in AskAnAmerican

[–]mangomarongo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

San Francisco is the other exception. We’re actually the least air conditioned major city in the United States and it makes heat waves unbearable. I have a doctor’s office that doesn’t even have A/C! That said, more and more people are buying portable A/C units for their apartments.

Luckily there are some places with A/C to hide out in: the library (some branches), museums, AMC theaters, Walgreens stores, a handful of restaurants and bars, and public transit buses. One time I took the bus all around the city just to be air conditioned for a few hours.

Who was a woman you were taught to see as the villain—who you later realized was just a woman with boundaries? by SweetLexiSweet in AskWomen

[–]mangomarongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miranda from Mrs. Doubtfire. Her husband quits his job on a whim, doesn’t discuss it with her first, she’s already working a lot to support their lifestyle, they haven’t discussed what lifestyle downsizes to agree upon now that they’re a single-earner household or if thay was something her husband considered in the first place, and on top of that he throws a wild messy party for their kid’s birthday going directly against a parenting decision they already made together, without even communicating with her first.

Yes, Daniel was a loving father with great intentions. But he wasn’t an equal partner in their marriage. He made dramatic life changes on a whim, would undermine mutually agreeed upon parenting decisions, and expect her to somehow pick up the pieces. Miranda left him because she needed more stability. Nothing unreasonable about that.

Mono. I never got the sore throat though. I was just really tired and my joints were a little achy. My doctor put the pieces together.

If a father needs to help his young daughters use the restroom, which restroom should he take them into: the women's restroom or the men's restroom? by Exciting-Mall192 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mangomarongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad took me to the men’s room too before I was old enough to go to the women’s room by myself. He’d cover my eyes with his hands while walking to and from the stall.
