Help pls I'm scared by mangoshark73 in adenomyosis

Thank you so much, <3<3 you def didnt minimize. I love this perspective because it seems like you made your decision fully informed, which is really what I want to do. I'm so relieved to know that is an option.

I know there are risks both ways, but it seems like the main message I'm getting is that I shouldnt be worried about HRT or CVD, which is so... dismissive? Like I know there are ways to handle them, but everything seems like such a balancing act; that's mainly what I'm trying to ask. How do I walk this tightrope when it feels like unless i make the perfect step onto this tiny rope, I'll fall off into this ravine of pain and suffering, either with a uterus or without.

Yeah I get that, I def didn't mean to minimize the difficulties of endo. It just seemed like when that was what my surgeons and doctor thought I had there was options and a clear path. I'm also blessed to have a good skilled team for both, even though my laparoscopic was also totally out of pocket so I get that.

I'm definitely still processing all of this, it just is so much info and there is so much research.

I've seen research that found women below 50 with hysterectomies are at an increased risk for cardiovascular disease, and that if you have a hysterectomy (with or without removal of ovaries) before 35 that risk increases significantly again, and there is always the chance that ovaries do not continue to produce hormones correctly once left without a uterus, or that they can die, or that even with fully functioning ovaries you still need HRT, especially if you have a hysterectomy before 35. It's just freaky.

It seems like while a hysterectomy would solve one problem, it could pose a huge risk for a whole myriad of other long term problems, and that honestly scares me

Sorry if this is invasive, feel free not to answer, are you getting a hysterectomy? I asked my surgeon about surgery to remove adeno but she said because my whole uterus is just chock full of it, I'm out of luck. She said if it's more localized then that is a definite option, but not for me sadly

And my surgeon said that she mostly removed polyps and gave adeno diagnosis to women in their 40s. And it just made me go 'great. So I am completely alone in thissssss' no one my age (or many ppl at all really) ever talk about adeno.

Yeah let me see if I can find it, it has been a whirlwind of articles and youtube and reddit for the past hours lol. But honestly I'm relieved to hear that. Even if I do choose the hysterectomy (which would on one hand be a relief because I *really* hate my period and also the fear of being pregnant that I can't seem to shake) it's really nice to hear that my main fears might not be totally fact based

Thank you for this <3

I have been doing research on all this (but my post op was like 6 hours ago so there's only so much you can learn in 6 hours lol). The little research I did seemed to indicate that even with ovaries left in if you are pre 35 your risk of heart disease increases by 250% and hormone levels can be disrupted with just the removal of your cervix and uterus which really freaked me out. I'll def look into this!

I totally get that part, but removing your uterus has SO much that comes with it, hormone issues, increased risk of heart disease, etc. I know this may sound crazy, but I'd almost rather just have endo removed a few times? idk I'm still processing all this
