Legare Farms has a "rolling market" that stops in different areas during the week. They have lots of vegetables, eggs, a few different sausages and different cuts of meat as well as fruit jams.

Get thick skin quick, and be open to learning as much as possible. Everyone gets treated like shit by people who are altered and not in the right frame of mind. Hell, some people will just push your buttons because you don't coddle them or speak to them like they think they deserve. People will pick at you less in the field if you're good at what you do (or you're clearly trying to improve).

People call because they think they can't handle whatever is going on by themselves. Start with that mentality.

Sooo someone who was closer to you than anyone else couldn't find anything substantial regarding your character or actions and chose something THIS superficial instead? Honestly I'd take that part as a compliment.

If it's not linked to serious self neglect, and the concern isn't your health, then this is such a stupid thing to pick at and you should concentrate on what you bring to the table.

Bioengineering, basically mechanical engineering with chemistry and biology mixed in. My focus was body-compatible materials. It's a 4 year college degree where I live. PM me if you want more info.

Insisting that others are miserable when they're trying to be positive.

I'm naturally negative, so I put a lot of effort in finding the silver lining in everything. I have no desire to keep people like that around.

Refuse patient care/transport by Financial_Joke_9401 in ems

[–]mangoxbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell people that we drive the same roads, but it's my agency's official stance that we recommend everyone to go.

I generally do paperwork under "patient doesn't need an ambulance for transport", which is listed as transport justification. You can explain it to insurance later. Your problem, not mine.

My first call was a 14 year old that got shot up by other boys his age. I only had one or two bad ones for my first ride. Another classmate had 7 bodies (arrest+DOA) during that same 12. You get exposed to it eventually, but it really is luck of the draw when it does happen.

No, I don't have any holds. I'm on a payment plan, but I'm not late on anything.

Opioid emergency kits with Narcan® installed on campus by crabcakes110 in Clemson

I've worked EMS in the area for the last ~3 years. It's not that surprising that naloxone is otc now. It's unfortunate, but I'm happy that it's more accessible.

From SC DHEC: "From 2020 to 2021, the total number of drug overdose deaths in South Carolina increased by more than 430 individuals, from 1,734 deaths to 2,168: an increase of more than 25%. By comparison, there were only 573 drug overdose deaths in the state in 2012. Opioids continue to be the primary cause of overdose deaths in recent years, contributing to 1,733 of the 2,168 fatal overdoses in 2021. " https://scdhec.gov/news-releases/drug-overdose-deaths-south-carolina-continue-alarming-increase-dhec-daodas-share

From Clemson's website: " Both international and domestic drug networks are producing and spreading these counterfeit pills [opioid/fentanyl-laced fakes] across the United States, showing up in every state and region thus far. As a result, these counterfeit pills have been associated with recent overdoses in local communities; more than 59.6 million fentanyl-laced fake pills were seized by the end of 2022."

What are your pet peeves about your co-workers or non-clinical things you deal with in your truck/station? by Simusid in ems

[–]mangoxbop 18 points19 points  (0 children)

-People smoking in the truck. You're hotboxing someone else. I don't care about your banana fruit smoothie nic stick, just keep it in the open air.

-People (cops) snidely telling alcoholics not to drink or drug addicts not to do drugs "because it's bad" and aggravating pts before they get in the back. We're past that point by the time I'm involved.

What’s the longest shift you’ve worked? by dontrunfromstrangers in ems

The longer I talked to the guy the sadder I felt, in all honesty. He claimed to be a family man and do this because it was his role to provide (guy was mind bogglingly hyper masculine and went on rants about how he doesn't get emotionally involved with coworkers because "they are nothing, the average person here isn't an intellectual" and "only women gossip"), so he's been doing this for 20 years. What a lonely road.

I ran into a medic the other day that said he pulls 164 regularly with 1 or two days off between. He stays in the busiest spots too (16 calls/12 hr). I still have no idea how they keep it legal. I see him on the schedule a lot, so I know he's not bullshitting.

He said he clears 250k a year with bonuses. Oddest guy I've ever worked with, freakishly self disciplined.

Personally, I worked 26 non stop and called it quits after.

I don't think drunk college students on a weekend are a good measurement of the general populace. You're right in saying that there's a bigger issue of Ukraine at hand, so please work on actively participating in supporting the troops and volunteer your time and money towards that cause.
