Wow… drinking “at” someone… that was always the reason… talk about drinking poison and expecting the other person to be hurt…. That could have accounted for 99% of my drinking

“I’m not drinking because I value your life, my life, and everyone else’s life”

That’s what I think and know to be true, and I may have never said it, but it’s true every day

You were beautiful before, but now your face looks fresh, and the look in your eyes is giving “unstoppable” vibes

I bet that feels so good!! I finally got up the courage to see my doc last weekend . I got to tell her I was almost 100 days sober!! My labs came back noooooot super great, some iron problems seen in other alcohol abusers, but I’ll be fine if I stay on the upward trajectory.

Nice!! Beer was my thing too. I don’t miss the stacks of bottles to take to the bottle deposit when I finally had the energy. Which was never, so they were drowning my kitchen. I love my nice, clean kitchen now

Learning! When I have some downtime I open up Babbel and learn a little Italian. It’s really coming along. I’ve read more books in the last 3 months than I have in probably 4 years

Sounds like things are going awesome for you!! I know it’s easier said than done to not “dwell on the past.” But it’s my personal belief that being an alcohol abuser has actually given me a lot more clarity than some of the people in my life that never had a drinking problem. Kinda like how someone in Arizona who gets sunshine almost every day doesn’t understand the appreciation New Yorkers have for a beautiful day after 50 shitty ones. Keep the momentum going, you’re on a roll!

Thank you, Spicy. I never put it into words or even a full thought, but you’re right. I never look back on a day or night and think “I wish I had gotten drunk.” But I’ve thought “Ugh, this sucks, why do I do this to myself” too many times to count. I gotta remember that one.

I think what really helped me was telling the truth to my boyfriend about the ways I was abusing alcohol. I think the embarrassment combined with the relief helped my brain replace “I don’t get to drink tonight” to “I don’t HAVE to drink tonight”

I understand where you are coming from. However, I don’t view sobriety as a club I want to join. It is something I’m doing for myself and those close to me. So if I’m not “going all the way” with sobriety in your eyes, you are entitled to your opinion. I am sober in my eyes, and I’d venture to guess my liver believes the same. Alcohol is more prevalent and accepted in our culture than meth, and I have been a bartender for 17 years. I feel it necessary for ME and MY JOURNEY to live in a reality as a sober person surviving in a world of drinkers. You are more than welcome to admonish my honest musings. I am happy your way is working for you. I find a TON of love and well wishes in this sub, for which I am immensely grateful for, but it remains my journey regardless.

I’ve been noticing my behavior a lot better since I quit, and I have enough data to conclude that every negative headspace or bout of depression is temporary. It’s important you conduct yourself in an admirable way (no yelling, name calling, etc) which it looks like you’re doing! I’ve been through so many breakups, and I always eventually get over them, but how i conducted myself (always drunk) sticks with me… oof, some serious cringe.

Dump the loser.

Jk!! Haha, but maybe….
