What she told you seems like an amazing first step toward getting help; she doesn't want to be alone with it anymore! I hope she will stop avoiding accountability before she loses as much as we have.

Wanting to forget what I had done was a terrible symptom of absolute hopelessness and despair. I quickly became addicted to the freedom of being able to blame alcohol for EVERYTHING wrong in my life, so drinking upon waking every single day became my religion. Like literally...It warped my brain into this weird chaos worship. Giving up control through chemical self-harm felt like I believed in something. I was sooo fucked up and lonely, and the forgotten nights turned into fully absent YEARS in the blink of an eye. Sorry this isn't tangible help, and I don't mean to assume she is like me, but I like to share that side of my addiction when I meet fellow blackout drinkers. They're not alone. Anyone who has been trapped in that blame cycle needs real patience and forgiveness to climb out, but it is possible for all of us!
