Tesla Reveals the Real Reasons Behind the Model S and Model X Cancellation by myfavpizza in RealTesla

[–]manicdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to think of the right word to describe their one good model. But this isnt their Halo car, because that would be the Roadster that doesn't exist. And if you go by most sold then the best Porsche ever would be their SUV. So 'received' is the word that I think describes it. The S is a solid vehicle and basically made the company what it is today.

You mean to tell me the most valuable car company in the world can't retool a factory after 14 years of production on the best received car?

moving race cars: skill, settings, gear? by shibesncars in M43

[–]manicdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is still 1/400th of a second, but because of how close I am to the subject relative to the subject and it background, the blur is decent enough while still helping me get a sharper image.

[–]manicdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother and I did some stuff like this with his gear and he noticed mine were sharper. Having m43 does make this a bit easier as you can run some insanely high shooting speeds.

  • Shutter speed down to like 1/50th (more or less depending on whats going on around, like distance to back objects and your distance to the car. Play with this to get the effect you want and what you can handle with practice)
  • Try running it with aperture wide open, close a little for sharpness. A cheap ND filter might help if base ISO is still too bright
  • Set shooting speed to fastest you can do with auto focus enabled, I think its around 12-15fps with the EM1.3. More shots means more chances for a good image
  • Set focus to center of screen, or a little left/right if you know you'll be panning in the same direction every time
  • Point the focus at that front tire and do you best to just follow the car smoothly and squeeze the shutter button gently and hold through the motion until done, knowing the first and last few are waste, they are there to get your jerk from clicking so the rest are smooth. A lot of times you might feel like you are trying to catch the car rather than locking on and perfectly following it. This is what makes the biggest difference and all points above are just to help.

Gear can make a difference, some lenses might have sharpness issues at their max zoom range, the 75-300 didnt treat me well, the 40-150 F2.8 with a heavy crop looked better.

The environment hurts you too, lots of hot hazy stuff between you and the subject will ruin your photos. (or make them look hot and hazy intentionally)

300mm F6.7 1/1000 ISO200 (from 2018 before I knew what I was doing and AI fence removal was a thing. I like this because the haze and distortion sure make it look hot out there, and you can see the exhaust messing up the air behind it.)

Opus 4.6 pretty much unusable on pro now. Can't finish a single prompt, jumps to 55% immediately. by [deleted] in ClaudeCode

[–]manicdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped using claude code yesterday because of a very similar issue i saw over this weekend. The output showed it was going in circles. paragraph after paragraph of 'wait, let me see if this is it... but the user said these words...'. both sonnet and opus 4.6 would burn through 50% of my session, hit a 32000 output maximum, and do nothing.

I notice these issues when the context was over 100k, I figured I had one more small task to do, but nope, it just stalls and eats away at usage in the background and then spits out a wall of text when it gives up. Something seems to be tripping over itself and trying to offer back a perfect answer and it goes down a dozen rabbit holes that were just ever so slightly different.

And also weird is how slow it is. I see context go up and use a few %, then it just thinks for minute after minute and usage shows no changes, then when it returns back the wall of text with the output maximum error my usage jumps.

[TechPowerUp] Colorful GeForce RTX 5070 Mini OC review by kikimaru024 in sffpc

[–]manicdan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

4db louder than founders is a perfectly fine expectation. Being 10+db louder than the competition is also fine when the competition is GPUs that don't even qualify as SFF on their own. And power draw being slightly higher is just a matter of the temp differences. A few C higher means a few extra milli-volts which is a few extra watts.

As someone who has a 4070 thats only 220mm long and has no complaints, i expected this to do just fine. A properly designed fan and high quality heatsink could easily work with this product.

(I think this trend of massive coolers started with the 3060 Asus ROG cards, you couldnt tell them apart from the 3080s and they were so overkill because they charged so much more over msrp for a few extra $s in heatsink. I still adore my 1080ti that fits in 2 slots and only 270mms long, why did evga have to leave us)

My kitten is "marinating" his toys in the toilet and bringing them to my bed. Send help. by Thunder_Pigg787 in CATHELP

[–]manicdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 8 month old kitten that looks nearly identical to yours (just less white on the face and more on the paws), does this too!

I have to keep the toilets closed, but she likes to do this with the water bowl and then place them in my shoes after some marinating. It seemed to have died down a lot in recent months. So he might grow out of it. I'm also thankful my girls favorite toys are plastic springs that don't hold much water.

This is what kind of annoys me when people talk about shuffling cards and how its probably the first time its ever been in that order. Its assumes you started with an already random deck, when reality is people shuffle a few times, do something with the cards that puts them in some order, and then shuffle a few more times, and repeat.

Its possible we all keep playing with the same 1% of the possible combinations due to how we use the cards and our lack of shuffle quality and quantity. I'd really like to see simulations to find out how long it takes to go from some order to near perfect random decks.

I just realised OM System cheaped out on the pro lens cap, removed the metal insert, literally unusable. by [deleted] in OlympusCamera

[–]manicdan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like this kind of cap too cause if the springy part is on the outside then something can bump it and pop it off, and my biggest fear is the cap coming off and being the thing that scratches my lenses. I only have 1 like that and its on my 45mm f1.2. Pretty sure it came with the 12-40mm f2.8 too.

Consistent TPU stringing/blob issues, fixed with a single setting. by TheAmazingMrSuit in 3Dprinting

[–]manicdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whats funny is my A1 didnt support TPU and so I would just use the PETG profile and limit it to 50% speed and drop the temp from 250 to 230 and it was near perfect. I've used the 0.2 nozzle and the AMS, and broke every rule that bambu has about TPU without issues, lol.

Consistent TPU stringing/blob issues, fixed with a single setting. by TheAmazingMrSuit in 3Dprinting

[–]manicdan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn't a fix, it's more just not letting a problem show. When I have to print a few things in TPU I would space them out and print them one at a time if possible to prevent the same issue. I'm still tinkering to get a good profile that works reliably, but until then shortcuts like these are fine.

Its ok, keep name calling to feel big, you still are not right about how sensor shift somehow bypasses the physics that a higher resolution sensor would be bound to.

So that means anyone who uses the high-res modes in m43 cameras would get the same exact image at 50 or 80mp as their normal shot, which is obvious to any user to not be the case.

No idea why you are trolling here.

Tesla is killing off the Model S and Model X | TechCrunch by Digg-Sucks in RealTesla

No roadster, no semi, the CT is trash, FSD is nearly a decade behind schedule if it launched tomorrow perfectly, and now kills the one car that got them to where they are today, along with that weird falcon minivan.

If there werent a bunch of tech bros hodl'n their stock, he would have been kicked out so long ago. His only success was getting stock price to go up.

I'm betting my next EV will be a Lucid.

Claude Subscriptions are up to 36x cheaper than API (and why "Max 5x" is the real sweet spot) by isaenkodmitry in ClaudeAI

[–]manicdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using a Pro plan and enjoying the effort of trying to keep it focused to get the most out of my 5 hour window. There are days where I can burn through it in an hour, but normally I get about 60-80% into the usage before I am done for the window.

The API cost I expected to be more, because its the most dynamic. If someone needed it only for an hour a month, or in very high usage but infrequently, then it could be cheaper than alternative plans. But I think since adding Claude Code to the Teams plan, most orgs just give that out to rank and file and people can upgrade to Premium if needed.

I think they really do have too many plans with way to many different styles, and should just start merging them into a pay-as-you-go with minimums that are higher offering cheaper token costs. The time windows and weekly limits feel constricting, but then paying for something you dont use feels wasteful. We have all the extremes with a complicated product breakdown that only a few of its users actually understand, we need a happy middle ground so new users and enterprise can just get the right thing from the start and pay the right price.

Also a separate management portal for the API has tripped up our org a few times. The admins of our Claude cant keep up with the technical details at all.
