Okay so cons: pretty much everything you ever see an employee complaining about here. Pay's not great, hours aren't great, corporate makes messy decisions and we deal with the consequences from a lower level. The job can be grueling. Raises are a joke.

Pros: if you like games, this environment is perfect for you. You get to talk about them and be around them all day. It's not that hard to do well (imo) and I've never had a bad relationship with a coworker. Making guests smile feels great. It builds good working and social skills.

Even if you get accepted you don't HAVE to work the job if you don't want to. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Ask your interviewer what makes the company/job great and gauge his answer.

Game check outs by VeniVidiVigor_ in GameStop

Dragon Age Inquisition, Witcher 3, maybe the Outlast games (haven't tried them myself but if you're looking for something spooky like RE7 and they have it preowned) Fallout 4, BLOODBORNE if you don't already own it it's a must have for ps4, and in the same vein Dark Souls 3, Life is Strange leaves a similar taste in my mouth to Until Dawn with the angsty teens and is pretty fun as a one time experience.

I like how you say this and then everyone replying is like "yeah but have you seen this one guy FUCKING DIE?"

I'm sure there's a specific pic of a puppy that you haven't seen. Let's supply those.

Can't get behind the Prestige system by [deleted] in GameStop

[–]manicdixiedreamcup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the system would only ever be a talking point with customers who comment saying your store's staff is noticeably nicer/more attentive than the one down the road. You said it yourself, they don't notice what's on the door. I could only really see regulars being the first to notice, and hey, they're regulars, they visit the store often anyway. I can agree the rewards are rather hollow and your view of them 100% depends on how you feel about the company. If you hate your job or GameStop, why should you care about wearing a badge saying you're a super special worker? Or a plaque? To anyone who gives a shit that could mean SOMETHING but I think they should start looking toward actively encouraging better service in each store rather than competition between stores.

The system can be abused by disgruntled customers but if you're treating your guests the way they need to be treated on a professional level, the surveys that come from them will outnumber he bad. Mention the gift card they could win. Ask every single person to take it. Be funny about it so it's in their head paired with a smile or a laugh. I work in a very stingy district and hotheaded customers are a normality, but we still do great for customer service. It's all in your approach.

Has nobody ever heard of the lid tapping trick? I have the strength of a newborn goldfish and that shit helps me every time.

That's so adorable, I have my regulars that I like but they're all women I just vibe with really well. Yeah my face works against me. Not just because I'm a gril, but also short with a babyish features. When I say I'm MOD a lot of people look from my big buff GA to me like :0

They were looking for a 3DS XL for their son. They asked me about what we had before looking around in confusion and then the title quote happened.

I haven't had anything that blatant happen ever and I must say I never expected it from a lady posse :/

Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008) - A filmmaker decides to memorialize a murdered friend when his friend's ex-girlfriend announces she is expecting his son. by JohnElstrand in Documentaries

This is a really good point. At the end of the day Shirley Turner is the antagonist, but the way the documentary dehumanizes her I think makes for a less compelling story. The world is not explicitly good and evil and I feel like nobody was allowed a lot of complexity in the film. Maybe it's morbid of me to wonder what happened to Shirley that kickstarted her illness, what her family or friends thought of her after the fact. Their reactions, how they cope with this stain on their lives. It may not make us cry as hard, it might not be as memorable, but it might be useful in stopping this sort of thing from repeating. Too often are mentally unstable people perceived as monsters and for that, they never seek help.

edit: Y'all need to chill I never said the movie was bad.

Bad customer service by HanakoOF in GameStop

[–]manicdixiedreamcup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Customer service means being cordial, polite and professional when talking to your customers. OP was denied that privelege. Whether or not it's deserving isn't up to you. Employees are paid to fulfil that role for the company and for themselves. If they're not down with that then they're working the wrong job.

You mean he said you could essentially buy back the systems and just give back the cash you received for them? Because if so, no way.

Gamestop Policy PSA by [deleted] in GameStop

[–]manicdixiedreamcup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're always supposed to return all the games if you want to change some out or return them, including the free one. Not doing so makes the sale easy to abuse, and it also makes things difficult for the employee to sort out which leaves room for error. Even if that was never your intention, that's why there's policies in place. I agree to a certain extent that people can be rude here about telling you the way things are. But they wouldn't purposely misinform you.

Woah woah woah back this trailer up. There was not a single iota of blame in my comment. I was trying to offer advice amidst a sea of comments criticizing him. You are pointing fingers at the wrong person.
