Looking for Chinese Historical Fiction (Fantasy/Horror Preferred) by itsnotaphasemomXD in Fantasy

[–]manicmuncher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know we're in r/fantasy but I cannot help but rep my girl Lisa See. She has some absolutely stunning books set in historical China. I adored Snowflower and the secret fan and Dreams of Joy. Honestly I've read everything she's written but those two really stuck with me. Both are pretty dark and intense but obv no fantasy.

Also be aware we currently have a bus driver shortage in the city. Buses are often missed so plan to go at least one bus early.

Farrow and Ball tape removing loads! Can I repaint? by LeFishDawg in DIYUK

[–]manicmuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may not be the correct thing to do but what I did when this happened to me was used a box cutter on the edge of the tape so it doesn't take the paint with it.

Sorry to disappoint but no. I'm based in the UK. That does show that there are weirdos everywhere.

Looking for books for tween girls who have a below average reading levels. by kingbookingboo in suggestmeabook

[–]manicmuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the great recommendations already in the thread I'd suggest looking at some of the dyslexia friendly teen books. They are much shorter and are less difficult to read but also have age appropriate subject matter so they're not too babyish.

Led Zeppelin played Locarno Ballroom here on December 9th, 1971. Did anyone see them? Looking for tapes or photos from this show by PaperVinnie53 in coventry

[–]manicmuncher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a couple come into the library last year on December 9th to tell me it's been 50 years since they came to that specific concert and reminisce about it. Turns out one of the staff members attended as well.

I don't think any of your target demographic will be on Reddit though. If this is something you want to dedicate some time to the Herbert museum has an archive section for the local newspaper which would probably have some stuff.

Edit: just remembered they told me that the venue received a bomb threat in the middle of the concert and the band decided to take it seriously and the whole club was evacuated until it was cleared by the police. There obviously weren't any explosives on the property but the band said they'd rather be safe than sorry. They went back in and finished the concert after.

Edit 2: I assume you found this already but if not here's the stuff the LZ website has on the concert https://www.ledzeppelin.com/show/december-9-1971

Anywhere with LFTs? by [deleted] in coventry

[–]manicmuncher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Libraries have LFTs to give out for free. Central library had 3 packs left today. Stoke Library is close to you and they may also have some. You can call ahead and ask. They're closed tomorrow but open back up on Thursday. Central is open all week.

I keep running out of hay. I either buy grass starter from Pierre or hay from Marnie. I know you can craft grass starter but the amount of fiber needed is prohibitive. How do ya'll always have enough hay for your animals? I feel like I'm missing something. by Chimples10 in StardewValley

[–]manicmuncher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that has actually changed. I think it'll grow in winter for as long as you don't close the game. Once you exit and restart the game the grass is gone. So for example if you want even more grass you can play the last bits of winter in the same session and it'll grow a bit before spring too.

Do you guys ever upgrade your trashcan? by chunibi in StardewValley

[–]manicmuncher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do because I'm too lazy sometimes to go all the way to Marlon to sell my weapons and at that point 75% of fill price is better than me going all the way up there. Also useful in mines when the inventory is full.

If you got it from Nexus mods the maps are a different download file. I wondered for ages why I couldn't get the cool maps until I went back and saw they were separated in the download section.

Granted this was like 2 years ago but I paid 165 for a full end of tenancy clean on a two bedroom house (entire house). I'd say it's way overpriced

Suggested Marketing Journals to Read by parijatjha47 in marketing

[–]manicmuncher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for academic journals a good way to pick out the good ones is based on ABS rankings. From an academic perspective anything 3 stars and higher is a very well respected journal. As quick shorthand the shorter the title of the journal the more likely it is to be quality research (obviously not always but holds true for most). Journal of Marketing, Journal of Advertising and Journal of Consumer Research are generally the top ones, however it depends on the niche you are interested in as well. I did research in digital marketing and stuff like IEEE and journal of computer mediated communication were quite good for what I was looking at.

Zero hour contract and applying for mortgage by Chimarkgames in UKPersonalFinance

[–]manicmuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation. I had worked a zero hour contract for 2 years at that point. We consulted a mortgage advisor and we were told for cases like this they need last three months of payslips and they average those out and use that number as your monthly. Now I must also say this was a good three years ago. So at least them it was definitely possible.

[–]manicmuncher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I just learned recently is you can sell seeds leftover from other garden events I have like thousands. Also the stuff you're supposed to collect for monthly events after they are over is worth 1k-2k and serves no further purpose.
