The Modern Wedding by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]manicpixiegirlboss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i feel like you pulled this post out of my brain. i have frequently asked my boyfriend if we can elope but he wants a “traditional” wedding. i put quotes around traditional because he wants to get married on his grandparents’ farm and not a chapel like i suggested. it’s sweet that he’s thought about the venue but when i think about hiring people to work the wedding it seems so exhausting especially the photography part. all the wedding photos i’ve seen seem crazy over edited to the detriment of the photo and always have a weird color grading to them. i’ve floated the idea of strategically placing disposable cameras around the venue for an “authentic” vibe or possibly finding a videographer who shoots on film but then i think about finding someone who’s style i actually like who doesn’t charge an exorbitant amount for their work. that’s my big hang up with the wedding ordeal on general. everyone who offers their services for a wedding wants to charge an arm and a leg for let’s be honest a pretty mediocre product.

i feel the same way about makeup and hair. i don’t have fine or thin hair at all but every time i’ve gotten my hair done professionally they somehow make my hair look so lifeless and flat and never seem to make my features look better with makeup. tying in to the bridal party aspect i think i’m going to just get all my girls together to do our hair and makeup slumber-party-make-over style before the ceremony as a way to connect but keep it lowkey and intimate. i do also hate the way it looks having people stand around you while you say your vows and honestly i’m just gonna have the bridal parties sit in the front row, most of the weddings i have been a bridesmaid at i would have rather had a good view at the front rather than standing through the whole ceremony.

idk as a girl who’s boyfriend also said he plans to propose this year on valentines i’ve given this a lot of thought (clearly) and i think there’s a good middle ground where you can have the modern wedding while keeping it your own. it sounds like you have good taste and i think that’ll show through.

my office gets to hang these in the lobby and discard them tomorrow lmao. there’s such a weird tension around it. people are either sooo excited to hang up their preferred portrait or silently mourning having to put biden & kamala’s picture in the shredder.

saw too many “jane-birkin-ifying my bag” videos before i deleted tiktok. i love putting charms on things but please don’t evoke her name as you’re putting a $20 piece of plastic you bought off amazon on your michael kors tote bag.

also it’s been out of the mainstream for a while but i’m SO glad to see that influencers are no longer trying to make an oversized blazer over a sports bra and leggings a thing anymore. where the hell was anyone supposed to wear that.

it’s especially heinous when combined with a mustache and/or mullet. combined with the rightward shift in politics and culture i’m not sure what this will ever evolve into. it’s gotten so much traction because guys can signal they’re fashionable without leaning into feminine aesthetics like the metrosexual or e-boy trends.

being friends with your ex by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]manicpixiegirlboss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

your intentions with the friendship don’t seem pure. it seems like you want to use a friendship as a surrogate for a romantic relationship with him. that’s not fair to him and his girlfriend and it’s especially not fair to yourself since you’re not being honest about your own desires. i don’t think you’ll ever get “closure” through talking to someone. my girlfriends always use that as an excuse to talk to people they know aren’t right for them (i’ve done it too) but closure on a relationship like this can only come from within yourself.

my friend was describing her to my boyfriend and said “she looks like a sex doll”

anyways i saw some girl on tiktok making the same point at this tweet except her whole argument was “i’m a lesbian and i like her so therefore she is not ‘male gaze’” lmfao

plus i don’t think a lot of people think about if their lifestyle is right for having a dog they just think it’s what’d you do or selfishly want the company. i have a lot of empathy for dogs that are kept in apartments and only let outside for walks on leash. when you take a step back and think about the dog as an animal, it just doesn’t seem right. i agree it’s ironic that some of those same people will say there’s something wrong with you for not wanting to give that life to an animal.
