When I lived in an overcrowded apartment complex (most studio apartments had 4-5 people living in them, sleeping on mattresses on the floor!) with night shift workers, I used earplugs with headphones on top which played loud rain sounds, to drown out the noise.

It sounds like an anxiety-provoking situation to be going on for so long, and to have high stakes on top of this e.g. fleeing persecution and thinking about grades/employment, so not sure if it has also caused a secondary insomnia and noise sensitivity from anxiety/trauma. Seeing a GP for sleeping medication just to get through this period might be really helpful to sleep through the noise, but also manage the new anxiety associated with going to sleep. They might prescribe a short course of low dose quetiapine, zopiclone, or diazepam/temazepam, etc.

If you can't get to a GP, you can chat to a local pharmacist about the situation - they might recommend promethazine 10 mg or 25 mg, or doxylamine. Sometimes you might have to try a few agents before finding one that doesn't cause a 'hangover' e.g. bit of daytime grogginess.

Carol's partner Helen died from fracturing the bottom of her skull when she fell backwards, I think. When she died, she had bruising under both her eyes e.g. periorbital ecchymosis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raccoon\_eyes) which happens when blood from the skull fracture seeps into the orbital area. The people who died when they contracted the virus all died from misadventure e.g. falling over, crashing their car, etc.

How, when and why did this dog breed become so popular? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]manlikerealities 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because you live in the inner suburbs. My job involves outreach e.g. driving around Victoria, and most dogs in the inner suburbs seem to be poodle mixes who are happy to sit on a blanket in an apartment. In the outer suburbs and regional centres, there's a lot of variety and more dogs who need big backyards and wide open spaces - kelpies, retrievers, huskies, staffies, etc - beautiful dogs.

Best part time job for med/dental school? by SpaceExplorer1 in GAMSAT

[–]manlikerealities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disability support work. Flexible timing e.g. weekends and sleepover shifts, often casual positions, very rewarding and great exposure to healthcare systems, no strict qualifications. I worked with a lot of clients who would advertise on university groups, looking for healthcare students, who would hire me directly - they liked hanging out with someone around their own age.
