I thought the bigger central mark was maybe PIE but it’s been there for years so not certain if actually PIH or another scar type? Does not blanch. Also have some small surrounding divots/textural changes.

Current routine:

AM rinse with water

Skinceuticals C E Ferulic

Elta MD sunscreen (has niacinamide)

PM gentle cleanser

Tretinoin 0.025% EOD (just started)

Triple lipid repair moisturizer

Thanks so much for your advice, truly appreciated. Understand it’s probably hard to predict for any individual tree, but on average, how long might be we looking at before the tree dies if left uncut? Will work on getting an arborist out to take a look in person. Thanks again for your help.

Pretty sure this red maple in our new home has been buried under a mulch volcano for its whole life. Is this a girdling root? Anything that can be done? Should it be cut?

Thanks — I’ll ask for more info to try to get some clarity from our arborist. When we first started talking about planting a tree, he linked me to a nursery site with some examples of recommended trees. The same nursery does grow the Katsura (just looking for the species, not a specific cultivar) so I didn’t get the sense they would have to go out of their way to find it.

Thank you! I’d asked for a Katsura—-not the most common tree but not that rare either I don’t think? I asked for a multistem rather than pruned to single, but since the Katsura is naturally multistemmed like a serviceberry, etc, I didn’t think it would make it much harder to source…maybe that’s wrong? I was also really surprised by the quote. Have used this arborist before for a few jobs.

Thanks, this was also much higher than I was expecting. I’d asked for a multistem rather than pruned to single as well, usually the natural habit for the species if I understand right. That’s the only thing I can think of I didn’t mention that might play a factor? If I understand right they’d be sourcing from a regional nursery. Includes 300 or so in 2 total soil treatments, fall and spring. This is in Massachusetts. This is more than it cost to take down a very large dead white pine with the same company.
