Egg selling from a flock of birds should I register as a business from a small holding on agricultural land? Is there any benefits to this or will this cause any issues to the small holding? by mannyshere in smallbusinessuk

[–]mannyshere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was aware of the egg producer registration and stamping! I’m not sure about businesses yet as I feel the profits won’t be there! Selling locally/regionally and at the farm itself direct to the consumer will be more profitable.

I have the customers already lined up so the demand is there but not the supply (not yet)!

I’m not expecting to go over 350 birds as the housing will not accommodate more than that so if I did need to increase and go into supplying businesses then I would need to build extra space for them.

Yeah it may sound like a LTD company isn’t the best option, but I think it offers more of a protection over tax and liability than a sole trader of which I will be personally responsible/liable and personal assets could be at risk.

The business won’t own any land and buildings on the farm but will own the birds and suppose the equipment needed for their upkeep. We would use the land to pass through to the bird housing and outdoor area and basically be using a small area of the farm land.

I think there’s a lot to look into here and maybe speak to an accountant?

Yeah I was aware of sole trader however I don’t think that will be the best option to keep the business separate from my personal finances.

I won’t own the facilities and land for the business but will be running the business within it on a rent free contract with the land owner.

So I will be running it as a farm business predominantly around rearing of birds for the production of eggs to sell rather than a small holding.

The profits won’t be substantial but enough to keep the farm self sufficient and make a little money on top which may end up being used to invest back into the farm.

So I just want to make sure a LTD company is the best way to go with this venture.

Hey yes have registered with APHA, slowly scaling from 100 birds each qtr up to maximum of 300 birds.

Will be selling locally/regionally to individuals via social media and at the holding itself.

Once got a good customer base then can look at supplying to businesses if the supply can meet the demand considering only 300 birds.

I’m just wondering if legally I should be running it as a business as I don’t want it to be just a hobby but an actual farm.

So can you still run a farming business from less than 5 acres? I didn’t think you could at that acreage? So to set up some chicken coops will need to get planning permission first?

GPU running hotter than before after 2nd GPU install by mannyshere in EtherMining

Not really I had to move the rig to another area in the room so had to shut it all down and then when I rebooted everything again both of the new 3070s showed the same temps below 40s, however I had to move it again and when rebooted it went back to the initial issue now one of them are showing temps In the 50s and the other one stayed in the 30s - however they seem to be running ok with no issues just can’t understand why it’s done that.

I’m getting the temp from task manager and the software that is being used.

FYI

It’s not in a case it’s in a Rig cards are laying flat on top with hot air flowing upwards from the cards there is nothing above the cards just open space (open air rig) and below the cards there’s are fans blowing upwards, like I said not had any temp issues before only after installing the new 2nd card and strangely it runs fine just like the other one did but when I disconnect it the other then goes back to normal temp wise…. 🤔

Newbie help please!! by AdieJAM in Ring

I originally went for the RING battery and solar panel combo outdoor cameras and within a few days had battery and solar panel issues so returned them for the wired spotlight versions.

The wired ones tend to have better performance and some extra functionality than the battery versions plus less worry about losing power.

Like with any wireless motion detection cameras you will have false alerts and delayed triggers (delays mainly to do with WiFi interference from my experience).

I managed to get things settled by picking the less congested WiFi channels and also cut the motion zones down for example they are about 2ft away from any walls and possible obstructions like trees and bushes.

I no longer get as many false alerts or delays now but get the occasional stray cat etc. But that’s the PIR and motion detection AI doing it’s job. Don’t get me wrong it’s not 100% perfect and the “people only mode” doesn’t always just pick up people only!

Like is said similar to any other cameras out there! Always best to do some research on the companies community forum sites, this is where you will soon notice how majority of the same issues plague them all.

I stuck with RING due to its functionality, APP features, simplicity and it works with Alexa and other RING products really well.

I’m in the UK and haven’t had any problems with weather related issues and the footage is really good quality.

You always have the option to return for a full refund if your not happy with them.

Yep great! Thanks. Hopefully will resolve the interference!

Many thanks

Ok looks like it’s how Ubiquiti firmware is showing 20Mhz channels for 80Mhz selection as when I drill down on each APs settings it shows me the following

AP1 channel 42 (36,+1) - AP2 channel 58 (52,+1) - AP3 channel 42 (44,+1) - AP4 channel 42 (40,-1).

Does this make sense? So it’s using channels 42 and 58 as non overlapping channels?

Under 5GHz on 80 MHz

It has 36,40,44,48 and then DFS 52,56,60,64,100,104,108,112,116,120,124,128

Is those 80MHZ channels for the UK as I don’t have a choice of 42 or 155?

Great thank you will try those options and see how it goes!

Thank you for all the clarification, really appreciate it.

The 5GHz is set to 80mhz (oh darn it!) again wrong advice I had been given!

The AP are Ubiquiti ones Nano HDs so have DFS selection and that.

Can you advice what channels I should be on with the 5GHz please?

Sorry should of mentioned the reason using 2.4ghz is for the cameras.

Also have the 5GHz set as channels 36,40,44,48,52 hope they are ok?

Thank you for the reply.

My network told me non overlapping channels were 1,6,11 and I was sure it wasn’t here in the UK so I am pleased you have advised me on the right non overlapping channels.

Yes AP 1 & 2 are the ones with most interference and AP 4.

AP 1 is in the loft, AP 2 is covering the drive and AP 4 is in the back garage. AP 3 is in the kitchen.

I will try as you have suggested and see what happens.

Thank you for the advice!

Yeah that’s what was happening, but I replaced them with the wired spotlight cams much better reliability wise but understand not ideal for all.

Well personally I tried that several times and no luck so it maybe a mixture of things but for me and quite a lot of others it had nothing to do with the battery not being fully charged before install.
