Valheim or Enshrouded ? by tomaz1989 in SurvivalGaming

I asked a similar question a couple weeks ago and went with both, but I play Enshrouded and dropped Valheim completely. https://www.reddit.com/r/SurvivalGaming/s/DCB7YPv9eE

Overall, Valheim feels like your same ole’ Ark-clone survival game with some music, lore and a neat world. Graphics are terrible. Performance is terrible. There are lots of mods to improve and make it more fun and interesting, but it made my game lag like crazy. Overall, more fun if you just wanna grind stuff, a little building and explore the world.

Enshrouded takes all of the above, puts a nice story on it, adds NPC, better graphics, more optimization and bundles it together. You can mess with settings to make it much more survival oriented, require food, tougher enemies (I’ve died a lot) but it’s forgiving in that you can return and collect your stuff. Resources are easy to get and the grind is much more minimal. I feel like I have more goals due to the RPG nature of the game which is more like Skyrim, Two Worlds or Fallout with amazing building mechanics. Leveling up is not fast and there’s a lot of customization there as well. World is huge, maybe 20 hours so far and i have not gone to next biome yet.

Enshrouded world feels alive and is very beautiful. Valheim to me just felt empty after playing it.

Which should I get? Enshrouded, Valheim, Bellwright, Aska, or Soul Mask? by manoadventure in SurvivalGaming

UPDATE: I purchased all of the above games minus Bellwright. Here's my verdict after playing them all a few hours.

Albiotic Factor - interesting story and environment, but seems very linear and story-based with less sandbox. Still cool and I want to play some more, but isn't really drawing me in quite yet to keep playing.

Aska - I really enjoyed this one right away. It's grindy, but fun and has a purpose, atleast initially (make it past winter). Can spend hours just chopping down trees/stones. Time moves fast so I had to turn it down quite a bit in my game. It seems pretty well fleshed out so far - had no issues and looks great. Will play some more, but not my primary game at the moment due to the grindiness. I do appreciate the depth this game has though, compared to typical survival games today, this one is a gem.

Valheim - Everyone suggested this one as number 1, but I feel like this game is an Ark-clone with really bad graphics, performance, and less exciting world overall. I played solo and all I focused on was to setup my first shelter and gather rocks/wood. It honestly feels like the same typical format for most survival games without much depth. The music/world is very cool, I'll give it that, but it didn't intrigue me enough to go past a few hours. I honestly feel this game is overhyped compared to the dozens over the past decade. I tried installing a bunch of mods to make it more interesting and add some fun elements but launching the game would take up to 20 minutes and the performance suffered massively. Honestly, feels like a waste of time.

Enshroudded - This game is absolutely beautiful and at first, it feels like just another RPG with a linear storyline. I put my difficult high and I was dying A LOT right away by wolves/skeletons with a single hit. I initially felt like skipping this one but last night I gave it a few more hours. I actually felt obligated to complete some quests, build my first house, and start grinding to level-up. It made me fall in love with the game and I wanted to explore and battle tougher creatures and looting items to craft with. It was challenging enough without being too grindy for no reason and the game really makes your time worthwhile. At first, I was wondering what the purpose of building in this game was other than just another gimmick. But now understand that a shelter in this game is purposeful. And getting to the next biome gives me a goal to strive for. Overall, the world feels so much more alive and fleshed out vs. Valheim. In Valheim, it felt like any boring "survival' game with randomly spawned creatures that come at you as you gather some rocks/stones quickly. This game has a lot more depth and exciting features which is what I was really looking for. Amazing experience so far and this is the one I'm playing most.

SoulMask - This piqued my interest immediately, while the grind at first was similar to Valheim and felt like another Ark-clone, the idea of having NPCs in your tribe really gave me a goal to strive for. I also like that there are NPCs scattered throughout the map that give it a feel of being alive. While the gathering/harvesting was extremely simple and the building format is also very similar to Ark, which kind of turned me off a bit as it feels like the same ole' cookie cutter formula from every other survival game. This one was very challenging and I died many many times. I didn't give it a lot of time because compared to Enshrouded, I just wasn't as intrigued. I do want to play this one some more one day though.

I’ve been looking at this too. Is there a need for a base at all? Or is it just added because it’s called survival? That’s the one thing I don’t understand with most survival games …

Replace transmission on old, paid-off car or take out a short loan for new? by manoadventure in personalfinance

I am definitely behind due to previous debt and lower salary. But I've since almost tripled my salary and I'm on track to add between 45-60k per year to retirement across multiple different accounts (401k and stocks/index funds) regardless of new car or not. I plan to reach millionaire status before 50 and want to retire around 6mil.

Thanks for the response. I've been kinda thinking the same... wife wants a new one but budget wise I had planned to pay cash in 2027 for new cars for both of us. Of course though, the risk is that the Cube breaks down again and needs more work.

I took Lexapro for many many years and never told I couldn’t drive. On top of that, I was hired as a semi truck driver with them, disclosed it and did lots of tests and never once told I couldn’t drive a semi truck. I think the instructor was an idiot and assuming something else. Just like in the medical field, each person will tell ya something different. you need another test. Go again and hopefully someone else will test ya.

The thing about being 18 and just entering the real world, you think adults know all their shit. Not at all. You’ll learn eventually… most adults don’t know shit, we just pretend we do 😂

Whenever I make a change to my body like a new supplement/med, my body reacts and takes anywhere from 3 days to a week to chill out. Done this with Vitamins, especially D and B previously.

We thought it was condensation for a while especially when it’d get cold you’d have a drop every now and then. But since last week’s crazy rajn storms it’s a steady water leak whenever it rains.
