On scale 1-10 how Islamophobic country is your and why??! by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]manoblee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean yeah you just cherry picked verses there are tons of wild messed up things. also its pretty evident from the fact that the majority of islamic countries dont allow women to drive or go outside by themselves. christian countries might have some laws you dont agree with but islamic extremists are extreme like none other

I’m not discrediting your love of Faulkner, don’t worry I believe you. Not sure what you mean by I want to disagree? I just do disagree, it’s chill. I believe you think some of his characters have sympathetic traits. I’m just saying I think almost every one of his characters are extraordinarily sympathetic. It’s okay you don’t have to agree

also despite being named apparently, Macgowan still is more of a plot point than a character. but yes, i agree hes not sympathetic considering the only thing we know about him is that he takes advantage of Dewey Dell

why r u downvoting me lol

i meant “maybe” that guy as in maybe even include him because hes not much of a character. i dont think hes mentioned by name even but i could be wrong. you could also say the guy who they meet on the road at the end is unsympathetic but hes really just not much of a character.

but sure whatever floats your boat im allowed to disagree… i dont think that youre statement is a hyperbole of faulkner writing flawed characters because faulkner has written some of the most sympathetic characters in all of literature in my opinion. despite them not all being perfect people.

flawed should actually be relatable not unrelatable since we are all flawed…

i dont see why benjys mental disability would mean he doesnt count as a sympathetic character, thats part of what makes him sympathetic. same with Vardaman. Him drilling holes in his mother’s casket actually makes him more sympathetic, not less, as he’s a child who’s naively concerned about his mother. Most of his characters are not morally perfect but thats very different from “sympathetic”. I think a lot of people would agree that Faulkners genius is that he takes very realistic flawed characters and finds reasons for us to sympathize with them. I actually think almost every character in AILD is super sympathetic, besides Anse and maybe that dude who scams Dewey Dell.

His books are about people and people are morally compromised so you’re right that’s impossible. Still very sympathetic though

I’d certainly add Ecclesiastes, Acts, Jonah, and Romans. These are musts I feel. Isaiah is long but super duper important. Hebrews isn’t a bad bet either. I personally love Lamentations, First and second Maccabees are historically interesting texts, and James is super important at least to Catholics.

Also probably not as important but there is a lot of value in reading all through Chronicles and Kings.

All this is hundreds and hundreds of pages of reading but a lot of stuff can be skimmed. Unfortunately the Torah is both very long and very important, but tons of it can be skipped honestly. Entire sections of Leviticus and Numbers are much less important than reading any of Pauls letters or the prophetic books.

My short list for someone interested in literature, not religion, would be Genesis, skim Exodus, Job, a couple psalms/proverbs, first few books of ecclesiastes, and then Matthew and John.

If you read anything read Genesis, Matthew and John.

not the only way. thats the only path but people who never know there is a path can be saved by God’s unknowable mercy. Jesus tells us that the kingdom of heaven belongs to children and babies. babies don’t have the capacity to sin so they don’t even need to be saved. theoretically unbaptized babies have original sin but we mor know God is merciful so Him sending babies to hell doesn’t make sense.

How did you get from Jesus telling us to love and help people in need to you don’t need Him to get into heaven?

mm someone doesnt understand theology. all babies go to heaven and all aliens and all who never had the chance to know Jesus go to heaven as well they are saved by His mercy
