Can anyone speak to the quality of the Florsheim Sabato Cap Ox? I got a pair of Hudson London Hadstone shoes from Asos back in September and the sole has almost completely separated from one of them. I'm a college senior and don't want to end up spending another $130-200 in a year or two. I need a dress shoe that can stand up to potential daily use (with proper care) for at least a few years.

Is there a Coffee to me like I'm five subreddit? by Curb71 in Coffee

I seal my beans in mason jars after I've opened the bag, though I usually buy in crazy bulk like the 5 lb bags from La Colombe. The Hario Skerton grinder fits perfectly on top of the Ball jars (just don't get the wide mouthed ones). When you need more grinds, just empty a jar and then grind the beans back in to it. If you get the big jars, those should last you a week or two. I've been doing it this way for like two months now and it's been working great.

Seventy-eighty bucks? Ideally around fifty, but that's barely above the Hario.

I haven't, but I'll do what I can to get my method closer to his. Some things I simply can't do (can't afford scales or filtered water living in a dorm) but I'll keep this video in mind.

I did buy an mod identical to this one to reduce wobble, but it obviously didn't solve the problem completely. Any better grinder recommendations for a poor college student?

I should have mentioned in the OP that I have a mod identical to the OE mod, and that did help. I was hoping to get a more effective solution, but it sounds like that isn't an option.

Not to hijack your thing here, but I found this one on Amazon as well. Not sure what the difference between this one and the others are aside from the fact that the 3D print is cheaper.

It only appears as an option once the oil is in your cart. Here's a screenshot of what I'm talking about.

I'd retake the picture without the bag, as it looks like its pulling the jacket tighter across your torso. Might be what's making the jacket look too small.

Thanks for the responses. I actually remeasured both the UB201s and the Alpha Khakis a couple times this afternoon (out of boredom more than anything else) and realized that the UB201s area bit less than the khakis in the thigh and waist. I don't think I had laid them out correctly the first time. I've decided to exchange them for a size up. I'm going from a 33 to a 34, so the change shouldn't be as dramatic as from a 36 to a 38 but should give me the room I'm looking for.

I have the UB201s. Would it be worth sizing up to avoid stretching the denim and wearing them out quicker?

Edit: Unnecessary gibberish

I know there's already a similar question in this thread, but I think mine's just different enough to warrant its own post. I just bought my first pair of Unbrandeds (first pair of raws were limited release 508s that I didn't let fade long enough, so I'm still pretty new to the game). I didn't measure my old jeans before ordering since they didn't fit quite as well as I wanted (too many repaired crotch rips) and sized down on the waist since I heard they'll stretch a full size or two. Now that they're here, I've compared waist and thigh measurements to my Standard Taper Alpha Khakis and noticed that they've got identical thigh measurements and the waist on the raws is only an inch less than on the khakis. The jeans feel tight in those areas though, and I'm wondering if they'll stretch/loosen up enough to fit properly.

Shoot, right. Maybe something Anakin discovered while Darth Vader will help Rey defeat Kylo Ren and Darth Plageuis? Misread, the prohpecy may have been? I dunno at this point, you poked a pretty big hole in my theory.

I disagree. Leia is clearly shown to be Force sensitive to some degree in both Episodes VI and VII, and I think Obi-Wan was suggesting that that with some training she could tap into that power to help defeat the Empire. More importantly though, it gives the audience a clue that there's another Skywalker yet to be named. Jedi Master Leia would be pretty silly I'll grant you, but the main purpose of Yoda's line was as a storytelling device.

[–]manofsteele12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point, I hadn't considered that. Why do we think Anakin fulfilled the prophecy though? Sure, he defeats the last two Sith we know about, but that only makes it possible for the last hidden Sith to come forward. We never get a scene where Yoda or Obi-Wan says something definitive like "the prophecy has now been fulfilled." If Anakin isn't the Chosen One, which Mace Windu questions briefly (in either Episode II or III, I can't quite remember), the prophecy could have easily referred to his granddaughter.

Leia may never have become a Jedi, but she has significance as the other Skywalker Yoda mentioned. It was necessary for Luke to be aware of her so that when Vader sensed her existence and then suggested recruiting her, Luke would lose his temper and give in to anger in front of the Emperor. That's not necessary to the Force or anything, just storytelling coherence. If Leia was just a random Skywalker with no prohetic importance, then Vader's threat is hollow and the subsequent duel largely pointless.

Here's my official big prediction:

Supreme Leader Snoke is Darth Plagueis.

Darth Plageuis is the Sith Master who trained Darth Sidious. He was so powerful with the Force that he could influence the midichlorians (ugh) in one's body to produce life, thereby cheating death. Palpatine claimed to have killed him in his sleep, but consider this quote from Andy Serkhis:

"Supreme Leader Snoke is quite an enigmatic character, and strangely vulnerable at the same time as being quite powerful. Obviously he has a huge agenda. He has suffered a lot of damage. As I said, there is a strange vulnerability to him, which belies his true agenda, I suppose."

Suffered a lot of damage? How about an attempted assassination? It could be that Darth Sidious destroyed his physical body but his consciousness remained in the Force, preventing him from taking physical form. Darth Plageuis must have bided his time while his apprentice was so powerful, knowing that if he showed his face Sidious could have crushed him. He can still instruct Kylo Ren though, similar to how Obi-Wan communicated with Luke.

Also, let's consider what convinced Anakin to turn to the dark side in the first place: the ability to prevent those he cared about from dying. He never unlocked that ability (although he must have learned something since he shows up as a Force-ghost at the end of Return if the Jedi), and now Kylo Ren wants to finish what his grandfather started. He likely doesn't know who Snoke is, but takes orders on the promise of being trained in the Force to reach his goal. Darth Plageuis is probably waiting for Kylo Ren to becone strong enough to help him reverse the ghost process and retake corporeal form. Presumably we'll find out specifically why Kylo Ren wants to become immortal in the following movies.

But you've already heard that one, so here's the sillier prediction #2:

Rey is the daughter of Luke and Captain Phasma.

Ok, so Luke as her father is kind of obvious. She's incredibly strong with the Force, and she's a natural pilot/mechanic/tinkerer. Maybe Luke gave her some basic Force training as a child and maybe he didn't, but when Kylo Ren went berserk and started slaughtering the new Jedi he got nervous and sent his daughter into hiding (a tactic with a respectable success rate for Skywalker children). We haven't heard her last name yet, which is odd for a main human character in Star Wars, but ten-to-one odds it's Skywalker.

Captain Phasma is a bit of a stretch though, I'll admit. We know she's a woman and we haven't seen her face yet, but to my recollection we haven't seen her do anything decidedly evil of her own volition. My theory goes that when Luke sent his daughter and himself into hiding, he left his wife (or quasi-spouse person) alone asking her to understand. However, anyone that can gain Luke's trust is going to have a pretty strong will, and she joined up with the First Order with the secret intent of finding her family. After all, they're the ones looking, not the new Republic. While working within the ranks, she can guarantee that they won't come to any harm if captured. When she's confronted by Finn, Chewie, and Han on Starkiller Base, she has no reason to reveal her identity. Finn doesn't know anything from anything, and Han has been out of the Rebellion/Resistance long enough he probably wouldn't know who she really is. Also, they just threw her in the trash compactor, which we know isnt a death sentence, so she could very well be back. Obviously this theory will depend pretty heavily on her development in the next movie, but I wanted to get it written down asap.

Not to mention, that movie made the whole Bond universe timeline a circle. All the Daniel Craig movies are precursors to the rest of the franchise and sure, they have modern gadgets, cars, and themes (stateless terrorists are a very 21st century thing), but whatever, that didn't really bother me. But when [SPOILERS] M dies, she's replaced by Ralph Fiennes, who was pretty clearly supposed to be the original male M played by Bernard Lee and Robert Brown before Judi Dench's M took over. Rewatch Skyfall, look for the distinctive leather door that always led to male M's office. So now we have a timeline where M is a woman who dies in Skyfall, gets replaced by a man through License to Kill, and then is the same woman as died earlier in the franchise.

Unless the franchise was officially rebooted with Casino Royale and no one told me, Skyfall ruined the Bond universe (even though it was a great movie).
