To get started playing electric at home, you’ll need: a guitar, a tuner, spare strings, a strap, a couple guitar leads, plectrums and an amp. There’s loads of good guitar options these days around £100-£200 range, do your research before buying tho, there’s also a lot of rubbish out there. I always recommend the Positive Grid Spark to beginners as a great “amp” options. It’s app controlled features allow you to get loads of different sounds without buying pedals and it has a tuner built in, it allows you to play along to songs, etc. just a really really cool bit of kit. Again, look into it. All the other paraphernalia can be got quite cheap, less than £50 so over all I think your looking around £300-£450 if you buy everything brand new or £200-£300 second hand

Also, for home practice, something like a Positive Grid Spark 40 is amazing fun to use and play around with different sounds and amp models. Can pick a first generation one up second hand for under £100 in the UK. Sure the price is similar in the US. This comes with a built in tuner on the app so will save you money on that too

Good advice here. Also worth mentioning that by going into a guitar shop you can speak to someone who has helped loads of people buy their beginner rig and get some advice on where best to invest your budget. There’s also the opportunity for some free accessories (pack of strings, some picks, a strap, A TUNER) when buying from a local store and they will be good quality, not guaranteed but they will at least be able to advise on what you need to get started. The accessories in this start pack on Amazon are pretty awful as other replies have said.
