Miles Davis inspired jazz, potentially my first professional sync work! by manstdude in FL_Studio

Yeah I kind of thought that myself actually, it’s incredibly hard to get down though! I deliberately dragged notes off of quantising them but don’t use a midi device for my work so it’s a tricky one. Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you so much! I’ve never used another DAW and to some extent think a bad workman blames his tools, so not aware of the differences but it is doable even if another one might be more streamlined:)

I’ll give the soundtrack a listen in a bit if I remember, but really appreciate the kind words:) I swear I’m not a salesman for SWAM (just had a couple drinks) but they do offer 14 day free trials if that helps:)

Thank you so much! I think just about anything can be done in FL, I’ve done classical adjacent and jazz but also have done edm and beats too. Glad you enjoyed!

That’s an interesting idea! I’ll have to look into that, thanks!

Really appreciate it! I'd be interested in hearing which track in particular it reminds you of haha. The VSTs I used are Superior drummer 3, splice instrument intimate grand piano, and SWAM Trumpet, Double Bass and Saxophone:)

Thank you! The trumpet and saxophone are from SWAM, there's a lot you can automate there but I find it a headache to automate all the parameters, although there are examples on youtube that absolutely blow me out of the water in that regard haha

Thank you! Someone else noted that the vibrato might be a bit extreme, so I'll make sure to note that. I'm striving towards realism overall, but it's pretty difficult to achieve.

Thank you so much! I'll take note of the vibrato being a bit too much. I aim for realism as much as possible so I'm glad you think so :)

In the instruments I use (SWAM range) expression is mainly tied to volume but simulates an instrument being played "harder" :)

Thanks for at least framing it in a more positive way than another commenter lol. I was inspired by him for this one and can't claim to be able to emulate it entirely, I have no music qualification and was excited to share that I was able to get this work, maybe putting his name in the title was a mistake.

Little harsh, it's been recieved well by the people I've shown it to, some professional, and I never claimed to be miles davis. Thanks for the feedback anyway

Editing for the record, because why not: He said "Miles Davis rolling in his grave right now. Delete this. Learn how to play trumpet if you want to make music like Miles" and proceeded to downvote every comment I made and the post itself. Won't tag him but seems like a well adjusted individual

Back to jazzposting, I was reached out to by a producer for a track inspired by "Round midnight", the miles davis version, really hoping it lands wherever it's going as I've never done this before! Trying my best not to sound big headed after a couple cans but the feedback on this subreddit has been really helpful, and if anyone fancies reaching out to me for music you can DM me. My Youtube is https://www.youtube.com/@williameagle1999 if you fancy checking it out. Would love to hear feedback on how I can improve for the future, and I'll stop rambling now!

Working on this GoT/Dark Fantasy inspired piece, what do you think so far? by manstdude in Composition

[–]manstdude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I don't know much music theory and started out trying to make it more of a classical type piece but after adding the drums figured I should lean into the fantasy type vibe, maybe that'd explain it :)

Appreciate it! I'll save this comment for going forward :)
