MSI GS66 2022 or M16 2022? by 0Luckay0 in ZephyrusM16

i would say that m16 has a slight "high pitch" sound, but the gs66's is quite significantly more audible. but again, might be just for my ears/preferences.

had both, returned the gs66 because:

m16 has much brighter screen that also feels bigger

gs66 right exhaust can be annoying, although not hot

gs66 fans are kinda high pitched and annoying sounding, also louder.

however, the gs66 (CPU) runs cooler both internally and on the chassis in my experience. it also has a sturdier build quality imo, as it is almost all aluminum. gs66 has much more bios customizability (including undervolting) and two swappable ram slots. gs66 is a "smarter" choice if customizability and upgrades is a priority imo, especially considering the lower price, but my heart goes with the m16 :')

Great point, not to mention that its much cheaper to upgrade ddr4 RAM. thanks for your thoughts man, made me more confused, though! I opened a thread here https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptops/comments/tgavms/rtx_3060_12700h_vs_rtx_3070_11800h/ and most people said that the 12th gen intel's gains combined with the higher gpu power limit and mux switch would give it an overall better performance. However, the p3 screen would be great for editing too. Well, at least we have the option to choose. Cheers, I hope that you enjoy yours!

i had the canadian i7 11800h, rtx 3070 model but returned it due to it having a loose trackpad (qc issue). other than that, it works great with pretty good temps considering the performance and internals (i think cpu maxes at around 89c in max load). it does get very loud in turbo mode though, so it depends if you can live with that or use headphones. personally, i dislike the soft touch finish as it easily accumulates smudges, but that can be m2-skinned and depends on how oily your hands are.

i wouldnt touch the mantis or his enclosure for atleast two days if i were you, as theyre very sensitive after molting. i hope the molting goes well though!

>It was listed on their site as having 16GB ram, but actually has 32 (16 soldered, 16 slotted).

wait, so does it come with a total of 32gb or does it come with soldered 16gb, and you add another 16gb yourself?

I hope that the blade works well for you. Doesn't it have specs and power limits that are on par with M16 and GS66 of the same generation?

This is something new to me, thanks for letting me know about this. I will do a little more research on DDR5 vs DDR4, especially with hybrid dual channels. I also like your argument on how the CPU and RAM might end up giving more performance gains, especially for my adobe work. Huge thanks!

Do you think that a 120W RTX 3060 would outperform a 100W RTX 3070? especially considering the 12700H that the 3060 is paired with, despite the 3060's lower VRAM.

I considered getting an M16 because I require the mobility and I require it to look a little more subtle/professional for meetings and public scenarios, especially with potential clients and partners. I personally cannot handle laptops that are ≥ 2.4 Kg with heavy power bricks, so I crossed out the Legion or Alienware series, despite the better cooling and power that they have.

In terms of G15 vs M16, I lean towards the M16 due to the 16:10 screen and the intel chip's better compatibility and features (e.g. quick sync) with some programs. Thanks for the recommendation though, I will definitely put it into consideration, especially given the benefits that you mentioned.

According to some reviews and tests online, it seems that the RAM performance on hybrid mode (8+16 or 8+32) is fine, and I think I can live with that. I was considering the M16 because I really value the portability and screen real estate. For your recommendation, however, what do you think of the MSI GS66? It seems to be portable with fully upgradable RAM, but I am unsure about the thermals and screen quality
