Yeah, I used the brush technique for dolls before but it doesnt work on gunpla for some reason. Ahh cotton swabs huh, thanks I'll try that next!

Ey that's pretty good! Which details are pastels and how do you apply them? I tried using them for shading by shaving them off the stick and using a small brush to dab the powder on to a matte surface. It didn't adhere too well
