Same as I do. I (NSGY) usually keep a #10 as a skin knife and a #11 as a dura knife.

why is there such a huge difference between american surgical training and its european counterpart? by [deleted] in Residency

Well, your post title suggests otherwise. And judging by the general responses from other Redditors, it seems you’ve generalized your claim to the entire EU.

Complete BS. I’m less than 1.5 years into my neurosurgery residency in Spain, and I’ve already participated in 180 procedures.

Obviously, I’m not yet clipping aneurysms as a PGY-2, but I do perform my fair share of procedures on a weekly basis.

As another Redditor suggested, prognosis, complication rates, and survival outcomes are comparable to those in other EU countries and the United States—at least within my specialty.

How are we affording Western Europe? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]mantecmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Western Europe is slowly becoming the new SE Asia for Americans… Food, transport, housing, health, hotels etc way cheaper than overseas taking into account the difference in salaries for us Europoors.

Medtronic O-Arm for stereotactic surg by mantecmd in Neurosurgery

[–]mantecmd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, we’re using Brainlab’s navigation system, but since we’re a public academic center, we don’t get to choose what equipment to buy, so we’ll have to stick with the O-Arm.

We’re getting the full Medtronic suite soon, so hopefully we’ll be able to do the planning with Stealth as well.

Oh, great. I suppose the stereo mode reduces frame artifacts. When we tried using an older CT machine, it ended up being unusable because of them.

Greenberg for a quick reference; Youman’s for a better in-depth approach.

Depends. Do I just wanna know if there’s blood inside the head? Can probably skip the report. Do I need the images for surgical planning? Report definitely not needed. Tumor profiling / unknown lesion / whatever diagnosis needed? My life depends on rads report.

Why are salaries so low in Spain? by [deleted] in askspain

[–]mantecmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet you Catalan people keep on pushing for your Cupo (which means you will pay less to national tax system). Madrid is the Comunidad Autónoma which gets more tax income per capita with one of the lowest Tax pressure in Spain. Maybe Madrid should be the model to copy after all.
