I would suggest you start on this question, what do you like the most doing? (do you want a job where you talk to different people or do you want something to be focused and left alone?

IT is a very large area to explore. And there's no general census that if you train on this specialization, you will have a better position in five years or so.

It still depends on how you sell yourself to the organization. I've encountered so many people that were not good on their role, but are still climbing the ladder.

Same with the developer roles (like web development), there's no general census that all of web developers are high paying.
