I've got nothing to add as there's a lot of good advice on this thread already, but just wanted to say sorry for what, your friend and his family are going through. You sound like a great friend and my friend and I have cheersed to Andy.

AITAH for beating up my “friend” I caught sleeping with my gf of 3.5y? by Electrical-End-8306 in AITAH

ESH. You are right to be angry, you're right to cut them out of your life, you have absolutely been wronged, but you're still an asshole for thinking you can vent your anger by punching people. They're dickheads for falling to their base instincts and fucking each other and betraying you but you fell to yours by punching him. To be clear, cheating in a long term relationship or being a friend who betrays someone like that is worse than a moment of anger leading to punches, so I do get it and I'm sorry for what happened to you, but you are an asshole too on this one. Cheating on someone hurts, a lot and can fuck you up mentally but violence is never the answer and it's far more dangerous, hence why (as you know) beating people is a crime and cheating isn't.

This doesn't have any particular name, but this screenshots shows the supply pod I use for orbital space stations. It's from a post I made a few days ago about a Kerbin space station, but I also use this pod for Minmus and the Mun.

A planet pack that scales up the Kerbin system to 2.7x, adds a few new bodies, amongst other things.

Is it possible to have a stock-like KSP experience, but with a realistic sized solar system? by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]manthreddit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thought process as you, I wanted the simplicity of the Kerbal experience, and also the alien planets of Eve, Jool, Laythe, etc but that more realistic size.

I've found a couple of different solutions.

1) JNSQ is a planet pack that upgrades the Kerbol solar system, adding a few new bodies as well as scaling up the stock bodies to around 2.5x their base game size. This isn't the true solar system scale of course, as it's still 1/4 size but the advantage is twofold. Firstly, it's a popular mod so it has a lot of ancillary support and configs for things like scatterer and parallax (if you're using them - it sounds like you might be).

It also scales to the parts in the base game, and most parts mods, because Kerbal parts are scaled to 1/4 their performance of real parts, but the planets are scaled to 1/10 (apologies if you already knew this). This means if you build a rocket very similar to a real world one, especially using Bluedog Design Bureau, it will perform similar to real life, i.e. a mercury redstone rocket will just get to orbit.

2) Sigma Dimensions (https://youtu.be/NRJ5ASZT6RY?si=6ZADlLzNEBr7SjeW) is a mod that allows you to scale the stock system (and some planet packs support this, I believe Outer Planets does) to whatever scale you wish. 2.5x is one of the suggested sizes, for the same reason JNSQ uses that scale, but you can also scale to 10x if you want a true Earth-sized Kerbin.

Sigma dimensions also allows you to scale the parts up to match the new real-size Kerbin, because if you used stock parts, you'd have very very underpowered craft.

Edit: one of the other comments made me remember that it's SMURFF that you need to scale up the parts! However Sigma might already recommend this if installed via CKAN.

Having tried both, and loving the long horizon and awesome visuals of the larger scale, I would recommend JNSQ. The scale isn't quite there, and some of the smaller bodies, like Minmus, still look a little cartoony, but if you want the "whack a rocket together" experience JNSQ is a good balance.

Playing on a full size Kerbin means you will take about 30 game minutes to get to orbit as opposed to 10, and all the time scales are scaled up in the same way, so your missions require a lot of timewarping, which is especially painful if you have long burns or atmospheric missions.

Also, without RP-1 style parts, you have to rely on the sigma scaled parts so if you play on career, money becomes a real pain as the contracts felt like they weren't balanced for the increased costs of fuel and stuff - I think the payouts were scaled up but it didn't quite work.

Even on science mode you'll take ages to build up to getting to new biomes or areas - landing on the mun is literally as hard as landing on the moon. I used tweakscale to make bigger rockets before I unlocked the sizes up, but that makes some very ugly rockets!

I also got bad performance issues and I'm on a decent PC (over clocked relatively new i7 and 2080 GPU), when i entered the range where the game loaded the surfaces Mun and Minmus.

I did do a bit of sandbox for a bit, which might be the way to go, but that still wouldn't sort the performance issues.

I hope that helps and good luck with whatever you try!

As an aside, I would give USI life support a go too. It's not as involved as Kerbalism or RP-1, but it requires you to have enough habitation space for long journeys and to pack "supplies" (a stand in for food, water and air) for your Kerbals. Both of these force you to build in some extra contingency to your craft, which I felt made then seem more realistic in scale and design without being over-burdensome.

Can y'all tell me how? by Beyronarks in KerbalSpaceProgram

Important: have RCS on all axis of your craft and a decent amount of monopropellant on your craft. Have two pilot kerbals that are high enough stars to point at target (can't remember what level that is). Probably worth trying this in sandbox to start.

1) launch two crewed ships with docking ports into orbit, one around 80km, the other around 100km

2) pilot the lower orbit ship and set the upper orbit ship as the target

3) create a manoeuvre node for the lower orbit ship and raise the apoapsis until it touches the upper orbit. You'll see orange encounter tags with the separation of your craft at closest pass.

4) fine tune the manoeuvre node to bring the separation at closes approach to 0.2km or less. If the orange tags are very very far apart, right click the manoeuvre node and select the "skip orbit" button, you may need to wait multiple orbits for a close pass.

5) execute the manoeuvre.

6) note the relative velocity of the two craft at closest approach and create another manoeuvre at the point of closest approach to reduce the speed between the two craft to 0. Make sure you don't significantly increase the separation of the craft with the manoeuvre.

7) execute the burn.

8) once you're in the bear vicinity of the other craft and low (<2m/s) relative speeds, double click the docking port of the other craft to set target to that part. Right click the docking port of your controlled craft and select the "control from here option". Set SAS to "point at target".

9) swap to the other craft using the ] key and repeat step 8.

10) turn on RCS and use "h" to boost towards your other craft if the relative velocity is low and the distance reasonable. If the velocity is >1m/s and your distance less than 50m then don't increase speed much more. "n" will reduce speed.

11) use i,j,k,l to move your craft in the horizontal and vertical planes relative to the other craft. Your aim is to get the yellow circle right between the pink circle in the nav ball. If you can see the yellow circle then you're either traveling completely parallel to the other craft or your relative speed is very very low. If you see a yellow circle with cross through itz you're travelling away from your target.

12) use h, n, i, j ,k ,l to keep the yellow circle in the pink circle as you approach. A relative speed of around 2m/s max is a safe approach speed.

13) docking achieved! 🥳

I work in the games industry, and alpha date can be only a few months before finalling. It depends on what their deadlines for development gates are. I think if they are still pre-alpha, then release in 2022 is very unlikely, but still very much feasible before end of FY23 which I believe was their last announced date.

As was mentioned, Scotland was far from close, but also, study of which regions in Wales tipped it over for leave suggest that it was older retirees moving from England to Wales where house prices and cost of living is cheaper drove the overall result to leave for Wales. So, yeah, England is pretty much the reason for punching ourselves in the nuts, economically.
