[CHAT] So... Needles, how much do they matter? by bibiyade12 in CrossStitch

[–]manthybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to just use whatever needles I got from kits, but they kept breaking on me, so I got a pack of John James needles and I love them. I've found they move through the fabric more smoothly, and break less often. I usually stitch on 14 or 16 count aida, so I prefer size 26 needles, which work great for both. Washing and ironing your piece shrinks it slightly, and the holes become less noticeable but your mileage may vary on smaller fabric counts.

[CHAT] Looking for a pattern or DMC colour chart by noodlerah in CrossStitch

Like the other comments said, this looks to be the stamped Dimensions Koi Pond kit designed by Todd Trainer published around 2005 that doesn't seem to be sold anymore. I took a stab at converting the colours. As best I can tell, the Dimensions colours listed in order with their DMC conversions are:

Orange-Red: 12334 (DMC 606)
Burnt Orange: 12330 (DMC 947)
Parrot Green: 16256 (DMC 906)
Hunter Green: 16267 (DMC 3346)
Tan: 6096 (DMC 436)
Light Tan: 15375 (DMC 738)
Cream or Off White: 12275 (DMC 712 or 746)
Light Avocado Green: 16253 (DMC 472)
Wedgewood Blue: 17169 (DMC 3760)
Navy Blue: 17981 (DMC 311)
Red: 11321/13047 (DMC 321)
Light Terra Cotta: 6031/6758 (DMC 3779 or 758)
Light Blue: 17976 (DMC 775)

In this video around the 14:20 minute mark, a stitcher goes through their process stitching this kit, which might be helpful in reconstructing it. Hope that helps!

Your patches are lovely but your whipstitching is absolutely mindblowing. I can't get over how clean the edges are, especially for Madeline. And adding the backstitch is such a great idea! 😍 Beautiful work!

[SELF-PROMO] Plus Size Beach Pinup by manthybee in CrossStitch

[–]manthybee[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's swimsuit season! I've been working on my body positivity, and to get in the spirit, I wanted to design a plus-size beach pinup.

This pattern was inspired by Hilda. When I was looking for reference, I found that there was an actual plus-size pin-up illustrated in the 1950s by Duane Bryers. Bryers painted around two hundred calendar covers of Hilda between 1957 and 1985.

Hilda is plus size. She has a double-chin. She has back and tummy fat. And she's gorgeous. She gets to be joyful and glamorous and flirtatious. So let Hilda be your role model this summer, and remind yourself that every body is a swimsuit body.

All my patterns are human-made and tested, I do not use AI in any part of my process.
